Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

Didn't think they would bring it in to the country this fast after launch. Love the idea of a rear wheel drive electric. Looks more crossover than hatchback from the pics. For some reason I always thought it was a hatch.

Hope they price the base version well.

What price range will this be offered in India if it does come here? 30-40 lakhs Or 70 to 80 lakhs?

Considering the Kona was priced at 25 lakhs and the engine in the base version of the IONIQ is of a higher spec than the Kona, I would say it would be 35 atleast for the base version and maybe 50 for the top end.

It actually will fill a good gap in the market between the ZS EV/ Kona and the 1cr+ Merc, Jag and Audi.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Long range AWD review by Autocar India.

India launch scheduled for late 2022, estimated price Rs 45-60 lakh.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

This is one Hyundai I would like to buy just for its stunning looks! What a beauty!!
Seriously, want this in India soon! I think around 40L is a sweet spot for these electric cars given little maintenance costs.

I am betting more closer to 60L, this is CBU.

Most underrated consideration in EV world is platform, this is Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). built specifically for EV's, wheel base beats Tuscon, what else you need !

I am hoping Tata will think of similar under their new EV business arm.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

The price is steep. I hope we get leasing options and other innovative ownership models. Hyundai is supposed to launch quite a few EV models, I am hoping that we get some priced in the neighbourhood of the Nexon EV or the MG ZS EV.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

One thing that I couldn’t assess in my brief snatches of various reviews. It would seem that the EV Ioniq comes with NO SPARE WHEEL - or at least I could not fathom where one would fit based on whatever I saw of the boot floor being opened and whatever. Would anyone know if that is correct?

If that’s the case then its a major downer to owning this vehicle.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

Ioniq 5 is a reasonably good product, though still impractical for India due lack of infrastructure. Kona isn't selling. Even 480 kms (model with larger battery and single rear motor i assume) is not practical outside the Metros. A 350 KW charger equals a very serious investment similar to a gas station. Current EV numbers on the road do not make investment sense. Europe is still struggling with the infrastructure as OEMs are not interested. Everyone's looking at the Govts and they are not biting. So its a chicken and egg story. Hyundai is looking at the EV transition to upgrade brand prestige (perception) and push it upmarket (among the Luxury Marques) through pricing. Brand prestige takes a very long time. The Germans are too far ahead and they too are going to have competing products soon. So Hyundai is going to be facing a very serious pricing challenge. Fascinating stuff!

I would buy this car just for the looks. If it were in my budget that is.
Gives me DeLorean from back to the future vibes.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

While Ioniq is great, Kia's EV-6 - based on the same platform - is absolutely stunning.

This lack of infrastructure argument is no longer valid. I drive my EV on out of town trips all the time without any issues. You don’t need a 350KW charger. Even a 50KW or 25KW one is perfectly fine. A person needs to take a break every few hours and while you have lunch or tea, you can easily charge at even 25KW.
