Oh, you bought some lens? Now stop crying about VR, most of us here don't have VR/IS/AS whatever on our tele lens.

Yes Samurai picked up the Nikkor 18-135mm 3.5-5.6G ED-IF .

This pic was shot at the break of dawn during my initial days of using a digital cam'.

Did a wonderful 4 day round trip in 2004. Started off with Jog falls --Honnavar--Murudeshwar--Kundapur(Maravanthe)--Udupi--Mangalore--Hassan--Bangalore.

Wonder if this can be ever done again :(.

Shot for one of my relative's house (his pet area, and also mine).

Not really a picture I like but may give some idea on existing light shot with higher ISO.

ISO: 800. Time: 1.3sec. 20mm block. f10.

This question may be too primitive for experts out here, but I wanted to know how to get black background like in pic above ?

Thanks

If you were shooting at f/10 and needed 1.3 sec then obviously you used some support. Then why ISO 800? You may as well have shot at ISO 200 and a longer shutter.

BTW noise can never be evaluated in a down sized image.

Love the location and the image though.

I don't know how gkrishn has taken that pic but if you want a black backdrop, use a black cloth for background. The alternative way is to shoot in low light/shade conditions with wide open aperture and use flash.

Examples:

Taken at around 5 in evening. F5 with flash.

Bad image this but I took it when it was almost dark and raining. With flash.

Window light with laptop screen as background.

Here I was at home gulping down my lunch, so that I can rush back to work. My mother-in-law looks out of the dining room window and says, Hey, it is a peacock. I look around and there it was, except it was a peahen, on the top of the house opposite ours.

I suspended the lunch that instant and rushed for my camera upstairs, and quickly setup the tripod with the longest combination of the lens I have at 50-200mm + 1.4x TC from the family room on the first floor.

So, this is a human habitat...

Should I get excited, may be not, I 've got no feathers to show off

Let's see how big is the place

Pretty big I suppose

Time to split this joint, adios fella.

And so it jumped back in the forest.

Not as easy as you're thinking. Let me explain:
To use f10 at ISO200, I need to use much longer time for shutter. Though there's no reciprocity failure in digital, other problem would come up.

For instance, how exactly I'm going to manage those direct light sources in the frame? More time means more (abnormal) shadow detail and blown (read burn out) high lights. Longer exposure also means more noise in digital.

My camera handles noise pretty well and I really don't see any reason to pull down ISO. And in this case..

..as you're right here, original size is 95mb (@16bit RGB). Noise is not really there.

Congrats on the Lens man..Interested to see some shots from this. I have a Canon 10-20 and pics are great. How much did you pay for this?

@shazikon: My first choice was the Canon 10-22mm, but it was way out of my budget, hence picked up the sigma 10-20mm, excellent lens equivalent to the cannon. Will post some more shots from this lens soon. I paid 21K for the lens.

Hellcat.

I am no avian specialist but i guess this is a Peacock void of its feathers. only cocks have that crests on their head. and that blue neck. but wow a peacock in a human settlement.. either the bird strayed or you really are living in a heavenly wodded place. but are there any peacocks around the jungles in that belt? never seen one.

No, there are lots of them around. Few years back they were a daily sight in the morning, but now because too much apartment construction activity, they stay hidden. Couple of months back I saw 5-6 peafowls in my office grounds during evening right after some light rain. Is it a peacock without the feathers, I am not sure.

I used a black cloth, which actually is reflecting some light. If you look hard enough, you will see that black is not even through out. Some thing like black velvet drape should help.

Hellcat, nice lens. Pretty good pics there. The canon is wee bit costly. I have ordered the tokina 124 and polarizer. Its now getting shipped from some where to some where else. Will be getting them in 2 weeks time.
