Did you say that the image quality is better than D7100/D610 ? If that is true, with that robust AF and burst, this looks like the ultimate wildlife machine. But so far in almost all the pictures I have seen, the 'bokeh' quality, which for me is very significant, is quite disappointing.
How does it perform against D810 both AF and IQ ?

No, the D610 has a very nice sensor. Even that latest DX sensor falls behind a slightly older sensor in terms of IQ. I would think about one stop difference.

D610 and D810 have better IQ. D810 is still the IQ champ among Nikon cameras.

D500 has much better AF than the D610's, and a little better than D810's. I didn't get a chance to test on moving animals in bad light and in undergrowth, that will be key for me.

I still think that I would rather wait for the D850. A DX would be better for the closeup portraits, but increasingly I am attracted towards animalscapes and environment shots (and right light and composition rather than absolute sharpness or bokeh), for which the FX field of view would be better.

You know this pic brought back a lot of memories from childhood.

In late 1960s Britannia had come out with almost exactly same picture of a tiger on the lid of their "assorted biscuit" tin (about 35-40 cm diameter). It used to adorn the walls of many houses in South India. I still remember fighting with my parents to get me a tin of those biscuit.

Nice to see another Corbett fan. I have been re-reading (for the nth time) all the Corbett stories. Btw, there is a very interesting Jim Corbett group on Facebook. Lots of rare photos and anecdotes.

I too am something of a nature bug (tho' nowhere near as deeply involved as you, I must assure you!) and spend a fair amount of time in Uttaranchal (Naukuchiatal & thereabouts usually) every year. And Corbett & his world were (and still are) as much a part of our growing up as gulli-danda and catapults. It wouldn't be too much to say that I cut my reading teeth on 'Tree Tops' and 'My India'. I still have this sense of regret that he left India for Africa in the 50's. A nobler soul didn't live. Still revered in & around Kaladunghi.
About the FB Corbett group, it sounds promising. The thing is that after one unfortunate experience on FB, we have kept our distance from it!

The swallow mom regurgitating for her young is, as usual with your captures, completely riveting stuff! And I really wish that gorgeous lady would remember me too at times - we have spent enough times at Corbett, but never got within striking distance of her!
I really think I have to get into deeper photographic waters than my hitherto pathetic efforts - and its basically because of seeing the offerings of folks like you and others on these pages!

What a great capture! - I really envy you guys. And to think that these marvellous creatures are lurking around so near home. If nothing else this thread has taught me to keep my eyes & ears peeled and acquire some genuine proficiency with the camera.
