Re: The DSLR Thread

Question:

I've seen EXIF data of long exposure pictures with 140 seconds as the shutter speed, How do you do this when the min shutter speed is only 30 secs.

I use a D80, Help me achieve this! :(

Asif

Help!
Its done using a Remote Shutter Release with bulb mode
In bulb mode, as long as the shutter button is kept pressed, camera takes exposure.
Wired and wireless remote releases allow you to do that.

How much did it cost you? Just curious.
I just got mine delivered to my office (yet to unpack it, in fact and am dying to reach home) and it cost me 19k without a bill. Smartshopper is selling it for around 18.5k, with bill of course. And the Tamron distributor quoted 24k !!! Strange is our country Mother India. Maaa tujhe salaam.

I dont want to de-promote anyone but the fact is Jayesh has lost around 4.67 lakh business in the month of May to June 2011 that came through me. I did not ask anyone not to buy from there but suggested cross checking few others. They did it and started spreading the word too. Forget about the new buyer, I myself have given him over 8 lakh worth references in the last 6 months (each of them mentioned my name too which he agrees) but I had to bargain too hard to get a cheapo umbrella adapter last month which was just a matter of Rs.40/- rounding off. On top of that I lost 2% of the total (17k a lens and umbrella set) on card swipe. Worst feeling: flipkart is selling the same lens for 600 bucks less. A radio trigger and receiver which he sells for 2800 is available for less than 1500 on eBay !

Would I go back to him ? NEVER ! Things have changed, we have many alternatives now.
I don't know, he gave me a 10k discount on the D7000 kit - everywhere else it was around 84k and I got it for 74k from Jayesh. Flipkart price was more then; I don't know if they have become more competitive now.

22K :( JJMehta has it for 23K. It hurts when you come to know someone else has got a better deal than you on the same day.

Thats interesting. Had you cross checked smartshoppers or any other place ? Remember smartshopper website quote is always higher than what you get when you call up with reference ! Flipkart is very new baby in the block. They started with just books and now there is something new added each day. Service and pricing are too good.

Latest buy is a D90, 18-105, 50mm etc by our member Lohit (from smartshopper). He got a much lower price than any other place here, but remember it was a quote on phone, not through the site. What I mentioned in the previous post is not a story. Thats a rough calculation from my side based on what friends bought from other places, which would have easily gone to Jayesh if his pricing was competitive.

Oh! That's huge business shajufx. I wish he goes back to his old shop and sell like before.

My recent experience with Jayesh - April last week.

I enquired Tokina 11-16 f2.8 lens at him through SMS and he replied quoting 33,500 and next day when I went to purchase it he said the prices were increased by 2k and i had to buy it at 35,500k + 2% tax for CC Swipe.
He didn't even give 100rs discount :-( being a regular customer i was pissed off and finally ripped too.
Then after this i purchased two lowepro bags from flipkart and it was 300rs cheaper too

I had checked the same lens 2 months back and it was priced 35k+ (you guys know that's how he will quote ), left the idea and later moved to an FX body. Now I think it was for good, otherwise that money would have gone waste as its a DX lens.

Anyway, lets not crib about him or anyone in particular. Whoever gives the lowest and best, he is our seller, simple. End of the day its our own pocket, 10 minutes after buying it becomes a used product in the market, so we can only do our homework up to the moment of buying. Rule of thumb: Always check atleast 4 places before fixing on a deal.

Personally speaking, a 500 bucks lower price and lack of 2% card swiping makes a huge difference for me, may not apply to everyone ! Whatever said and done, if I buy a cam for 25k and my neighbor buys the same for 24900, I can see a wicked smile from him and a sad long face of myself. Thats how we are

+1

I've used Tamrac, Lowepro and Vanguard. On tops is Lowepro (2 bags so far) followed by Vanguard (2 bags so far) and Tamrac (I sold off with my film SLR). Vanguard's makes some great CF tripods and ballheads though.

I want to try a Kata or a Thinktank some day.

Regards,

I hope they keep adding many more things into their site. One of my happiest and best online purchase ever !

Agree! A few pages back I had suggested Jayesh's shop to a fellow member based on my previous experience. But no more! Had been there to en quire about D-90 and his attitude put me off. His quote was lesser than others but when I asked for a best price he could offer, he retorted that I hadn't done my homework on DSLRs. That was the last straw, decided I am not buying anything from that dumb head.

He said he is shifting to Jayanagar in coming months. He added that he could earn, by selling 3 piece, what he earns by selling 10 piece in present shop.

Regards,
I am using Kata for more than a year now. Pretty robust and user friendly. Very convenient for carrying my laptop + my camera kit.

I had bought through Smartshoppers. I find that website very competitive in terms of pricing.

Thanks rkbharat, Aroy and humyum. It was indeed the 'noise reduction' thing. Read some more about it through Google. Enlightened! Some people say it can even reduce the picture quality a notch as in the process of removing the 'common' pixels(in the original and the dark image), some amount of original photo pixels might get removed.

Switched if off for now, and the image is displayed almost instantly. Will take a few shots with it on and off to compare.

But you see, I didn't get a bill for my purchase, which means sales tax was not paid on the item while you got it with a bill and warranty. So I think you got a decent enough deal.
Smartshopper of course is cheaper than even grey market (I wonder how they manage to offer such prices). But somehow I feel uncomfortable dealing with an online shop. I like to check the item before I buy it, especially for high value items.

Looks fantastic Shaju, congrats, I liked the extra pocket for misc stuff. But I think it does not have a quick access zipper for One section for a body with lens
