Last heard the D80 was for 33K and the D300 for 67K. So, the D90 IMO should be between 40-50K.

Almost all brands get clean and clearer image, isn't it? Just compare their brochures...

My take is raise the bar by another 10K and you can get a D80 with the kit lens.

Price range - under 30K.

Just to let you know guys that even the D700 proved a bit heavier on my pocket and except for the fx factor, feature to feature the D300 matches the D700 and the older D3 to an extent.

Why not the D300s? Because except for the dual storage slot, there is no difference.

So have zeroed on D300 and by Mon-Tue should get one. Bye-bye D80. You served me well and I would miss you. But at the moment can't afford to keep two bodies.

Olympus PEN is a really cute Micro SLR to have If i had lots of money left after i buy an SLR i would like to have one of those. But no one will be ever left with enough money once they get into DSLR photography. To quote you; "It's a money pit!"

Some Panasonic Leica range of DSLRs have EVF instead of a mirror/prism setup.

Best price when i inquired was 26,700 with warranty at Propix in Bangalore but did not checked the freebies.

@gd1418
Perhaps even I should look at going your way. If I can sack off my D70s at a reasonable price, I could maybe stretch the budget and go for the D300 instead of D90.

You are right - D300s, no brainer and I have plenty of CF's lying with me.
D700 - too expensive for me, plus I have a legacy of lenses that work well with the dx bodies and the fact that the crop factor makes the 80-200/2.8 lens a gem to work with (of course the 70-200 VR is better but beggars can't be choosers).

Do let us know whent you get your D300, from where and what price??

@invincible7
Do check out all brands that are in your budget. Keep in mind the availability of lenses for future upgrades and go with the one you are most comfortable with. Remember, whichever system you get "married" to, it will be difficult to switch unless you have a bottomless wallet!!

You guys are lucky, Xcite Bangalore doesn't even stock the Canon 450D ... checked yesterday.

I got myself, Sony Alpha 200W, this is my first move to a DSLR camera. I went in for dual lens kit which came with 18-70mm Lens & also 75-300mm telephoto lens also along with the camera.

Pretty much satisfied with the quality of snaps & the ease of use. Are there other BHPians also using the same one?

Hi Aburagohain, i bought mine with bill, only thing is that i purchased it from the Netherlands. Was having a budget constraint of about INR 30K(Euro 450) & to be true was looking at Canon as my first DSLR. But the price at which the features of this camera & the additional lens was being offered at that time made me go for it. And i can vouch even now that i dont regret, its a perfect entry level DSLR camera, if one is serious photographer & looking beyond normal photography.

I got Sony Alpha 200W double lens kit for 570 Euro (37K+) almost 6 months back.

Go for products with bill as i am sure you know are covered under warranty & thus atleast gives you mental satisfaction. In grey market you might get the same product may be 5-10K cheaper but if god forbid something goes wrong with the camera after the purchase, then you might incur expenses just because camera is not covered under warranty.

I bought a Canon Powershot SX10 IS and was searching for some video tutorials on how to use all the features of the camera. Does anyone know of a place where I can view or download them?

Saurabh, saw the pictures. They are nice but without captions it becomes difficult to associate. Did you take the pics of the snow clad Alps from a copter?

Got to try a 5D MkII today. Stunning is an understatement. Its a mind blowing camera. The amount of detail that camera extracts even from crummy lenses is crazy. Put a good fast prime on it and the amount of detail is a sight to behold.

If I had 130k sitting around, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

And I would not have jettisoned my D80 but would grab the D700 without batting an eyelid..
