Guys I am planning to sell of my Nikon equipment and move to Canon. This is what I have:

Nikon D40 + 18-55mm kit lens. With box and manuals.
Nikon 18-200mm VR lens.

How much should I expect for it?

Yes and no. It greatly depends on the output needed and the purpose. Yes, medium format cameras have larger sensor, hence smoother renditions.
That said, medium formats lag behind in two areas: Ease of use and choice (read range of focal length) of lenses.

Actually bill boards require very little extra resolution, as they are viewed at a large distance.

In contrast fashion, in-store and exhibition prints require extra resolution for large prints, as these are viewed at close distance.

I remember seeing two Reebok prints, both about 6' x 4' in the same store. First was crisp and second muddy and blocky, which is unpardonable for a multinational.

An 80MP sensor will easily give you a 2m wide print at 150dpi, with clear details when viewed at an arms length (exhibitions, museum, residences), something not possible with a 25MP sensor. Then there is the tonal quality, where MFDB scores over the 14bit DSLR systems giving smooth shades and good shadow clarity.

Thanks again Royji, large print/billboard is way off-topic here as all what we need is an advanced DSLR within 25MP as the major chunk of the fund will go on lenses undoubtedly. I know its very tough to get user opinions here from the short listed bodies, but again, I dont underestimate people with wide technical knowledge about systems even if they dont own them.

In general most of the Nikon lenses are upwards compatible. In fact if one is used to manual focusing, the older lenses work well enough on AF bodies.

Many use the Carl Zeiss manual focusing lenses with modern DSLR, so it must be working. Hence in case the person has a film Nikon SLR and migrates to DSLR, the older lenses could still be used. As they will all be FX, there should be no compatibility issues, especially as you want 25MP+ bodies which are all FX.

Although my entire Nikon system was put for sale, I am holding my D700 body, 20mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.4 until I get my upgrades (probably available by December). And the itching to replace the already sold 70-200 range was so intense that I placed an order at Flipkart for Nikon 70-300 VR, got delivered this evening !!! I know what my friends might be thinking now "this guy has totally lost his mind", I can hear that

Anyway this is a beauty glass which I owned with my D60 and D90 for an year and the only FX compatible lens in this range that does not make a hole in the wallet.

This is my 4th order from Flipkart and I am a very very happy customer. Perfect pricing and best delivery. If the order was placed on a Monday, I would have got it in 48 hours.

HEHE! Shaju are you absolutely sure you wanna sell off your Nikon D700? Nah! I think you love it too much.

Here's what I think will happen - Shajufx will buy a new EVIL camera with a nice do-it-all lens and suddenly decide to keep both systems. The EVIL is for travel and a backup while the D700 for umm..ahh let's say "serious stuff".

Congrats on the 70-300 VR. One hell of a VFM lens.

Rumors surface about Canon 1DX. It's going to have 18MP, full frame sensor and support 14fps shooting (Do we even require that?). Yep, sounds like upgrade time for many.

This, whenever it comes out, will be clearly aimed for sports/action photographers. 14 frames per second is nothing new for Canon.
They've achieved this long back in 1984 designed for press photographers covered that L.A. Olympic Games.

Despite after 20 years - Still the FASTEST beast around.

D700 is an amazing camera, once you use it, nothing gets close.

There was a copy of 055 XPROB floating on ebay and dealextreme. Not sure about the head. By copy, I mean an exact replica with 99% of the same quality, only issue I heard was strap lug breaking easily which to be honest is used by only few. Also parts were interchangeable with genuine Manfrotto ones.

You get it. Internet is becoming full about the ISO range of this beast but no one is bothering (or seems interested) to discuss the effect of raising ISO and loosing Dynamic range. D3s has this issue and so did 1Dmk4, wonder how is 1D-X going to tackle it with 2 more stops.

Many are raving how its going to be wedding tog`s favourite camera, but I can`t see it. Both D700/5DII are good enough for weddings, D3s/1D-X bring nothing special to cater for wedding togs. Or am I off the ball here ?

Now my dear Shaju there's no need to go and break your back or your bank with comparatively heavy AL stuff or pay 25K for a CF model. I would really suggest you check out the Vanguard CF range which is value for money and really well made for its price. This is IMHO of course as I owned one previously. Not sure what you budget is but do take a look at them.

BTW Feisol is a good brand - why on Earth did you sell that off too? You could have used that tripod for your EVIL camera as well.
