That's a limited plan upto 5 GB - so you should get much higher speeds. You need to talk to customer service.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

Regardless of whatever you do, it is hard to get a speed more than 0.6-0.7 Mbps for Reliance Netconnect+, at least in Bangalore, Banashankari and J.P.Nagar. This is based on personal experience.

Also, during afternoon, the connectivity is bad and sometimes intermittent. Multiple complaints to customer care, but nothing happened.

For TATA Photon, at least they offered to install an additional antenna at our home.

So finally we switched to BSNL 3g and it works great for us so far. There is a setup to share the wireless internet over wi-fi in office, and the speed is good for at least 4-5 computers to browse internet/do a remote desktop connection. The connectivity or the signal strength is also not an issue here.

You might want to buy one of those unlocked data card so that you can try any provider of your choice.

As far as speed is concerned, 3G is way better than CDMA.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

How to use IDEA 3G in Bangalore?

The APN "internet" is only for 2G speed.

Tried to call customer care. Initially they asked to wait for sometime. Now call to 198 is automatically disconnected while selecting the option to talk to a rep(with a message asking to call after 24 hours).

According to some advice, selected Airtel 3G network, since IDEA 3G is not there in the list of available operators. The SIM can register to Airtel network but speed is low.

Almost of my browsing will be in Bombay. I don't download movies & stuff, so I am not interested in unlimited plans(unless they offer good speeds). I use a minimum of 2GB bandwidth per month. So basically, I am looking for a good plan with offers 2-3 GB per month. What are the best options?
You can check out airtel 3G data card. The postpaid plan of 675 flexishield is good VFM with a bill capping of Rs. 2000. You will get 7.5 GB for this amount and beyond that its unlimited at 2G speed. This plan has a monthly rental of 675 and you get 1.25 GB bundled along with 1st month addl free 3 GB. Charges beyond 1.25 GB is 2p/100Kb, with bill cap at Rs. 2000.

There is damn good connectivity across Mumbai for airtel 3G. What area do you stay in?

Getting disconnected when selecting an option to talk to customer care executive is very common as far Idea network is concerned. Idea is one of the most mis- managed companies. Being the Aditya Birla group, but still it lacks quality. I am waiting for the Airtel people to launch proper Datacard plans with unlimited plan options so that i can move to them. I was using the Airtel LL and BB connection for 3.5 years without any hassles. The speed test . net test details of airtel bb is quoted at 4 mbps which i still do no believe. As far as the experience is concerned, i would say that the speed can be approx 1 mbps. But seriously don't know how the speed test.net says 4 mbps.

Where MTS MBlaze is available, they are giving away the data card free by paying 3 months advance rental for the Rs. 700 post paid plan. But a lot of dealers sell only their prepaid plan, so best to contact their customer service & ask them where you can get this.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

Is it available only with postpaid or is there a prepaid option available as well?

The MTS site shows only postpaid options for advance rental. However, looks like you have a prepaid plan. Please confirm if it is possible to get the same in prepaid.

Thanks.

100kbps means not even 1x speed. How can you manage with that. It takes huge time tp load web pages too. This is what MTS calls as blaze.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

I am really annoyed with the kind of service that Reliance netconnect plus is providing. The speed are absolutely useless. Maximum of 0.2 MBPS is what i am receiving and compliants to the customer care is not doing anything good.

I have purchased the datacard from Reliance and what is the alternative use of the same. Can anyone help me out.

Don't know why your speed is so low, i am regular netconnect BB+ user and i get 1.5mbps most with top speed of 2.8 during off peak hours, no tricks or tweak applied.

All you can use this device is "as a pen drive" if it has a MMC Slot, else its only good when working.

Check how many signal bar are shown in the dialer ?
try selecting "broadband" mode instead of hybrid

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

Guys can anyone help me with prepaid tariff for Idea 3G, BSNL 3G and Airtel 3G ?

I am looking at 5 GB "unlimited thereafter slow speed" plans:
As per my understanding Idea 3G has this plan for something like Rs. 800.

From BSNL website i cannot make out anything - FRC etc. and what not.

And which is a good operator independent 3G device in the market?

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

Ignore the mumbo-jumbo - the people who created the BSNL pages think everyone speaks their jargon.

BSNL basically has 2 types of post-paid plans (exclusive of 9.3% Service Tax!):
* The sub-2GB per month costing 89-649/- with day-night combinations
* 10GB for 999, 15GB for 1359, etc. The 1359 one used to by actually Unlimited before they limited it to 1359 in May

Ditto for pre-paid, except that for every INR10 paid for prepaid, you get INR9.07 worth of usage, INR0.93 being the Service Tax!!! So, the corresponding pre-paid plans are:
* The sub-2GB per month costing 100-716/- with day-night combinations
* 10GB for 1102, 15GB for 1500, etc.

Effectively, the Post-paid and Pre-paid charges are the same in equivalent plans. I have the 15GB post-paid one since I took their "Unlimited for 700/- per month (6 months 4200/- offer)" which suddenly now leads to default 15GB postpaid for 1359/- per month at the end of the offer period. I will switch over to Pre-paid (maybe the 512MB for 200/-) at the end of the offer period this month.

BSNL is really funny: the "Post Paid" plans are actually billed in Advance. For example, the July usage bill comes in at the start of July, with the Bill Due Date as 23rd July!!! This is unlike their DSL plans, which are billed in arrears, e.g. June's data charges appear in the July phone bill that comes in the middle of July, payable by 28th July or so.

This is not mentioned anywhere in the BSNL website, and I am not sure if this is fair practice in TRAI eyes. Either TRAI's eyes are closed or they don't have a clue about this.

Airtel prepaid 3G costs slightly more, but stops at 2GB for 750/-. I am using 250MB for 200/-, which I can recharge whenever I have used up 250MB. Recharging twice in a month is a rare event for me, since I am in a WiFi area most of the times.
