21mbps should be the max speed of the equipment. The real speed should depend upon the network. I guess its 7mbps. Not sure.

Well they offer 3 different types of plans, for 3.2, 7.2 and 21mbps. I guess if they are charging for 21 then it will certainly be faster than 7. Anyway will try and get a trial from Docomo and update here on the speed.

Do not fall for their adverts blindly. Even Docomo has TATA written before it.

I'm sure you're having a lot more TATA's in your daily life. Starting from the morning tea.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

bought a photon plus from my colleague. it worked decently at my office premise (E-city BLR) but now when i try at home its pathetic.

look at the speed they offer :( very bad. i feel as if i am in stone age. the dial up used to be faster than this

Download Speed: 81 kbps (10.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 122 kbps (15.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Well I am not a tea person but I do have TataSky

It seems someone reported my above post to the powers that be in TataTele and things started to move. I had a flurry of calls and lo and behold one fine day a guy landed up with a replacement USB stick. Well the new one came with a microscopic crack but it also brought with it much much better speed and stable connection. I am now and waiting for them to come forth and keep their promise of adjusting my bills for all those months when I was paying for Photon+ but the connection was permanently stuck on Whiz.

@abdriver2000
If this is in Bombay, look no further than You telecom. I have found their connection to be the fastest, most stable and very competitively priced. The only other company that does better is our very own MTNL.

@recshenoy
Check what signals you are getting Whiz or Sky.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

@recshenoy,

If you have a photon + connection that is the service you should get and not Photon+ / Whiz.

In your dialer window see bottom right hand, there is a logo of a gear wheel and it reads 'settings'. Click on that and in the sub menu click on network. You will get a window which gives the options of Photon+ only, Hybrid (+ and Whiz) and Whiz only. Select Photon + Only and click Apply, click OK and exit the settings.

This will ensure that your device will catch only photon + signals. If you have problems connecting etc in this mode, then it is definitely time for you to get your USB stick replaced by the company.

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

Thanks Khoj, Yes had done that last week. Once i did that my photon plus signal went to ZERO and only when i changed back to HYBRID, some times whiz some times Photon came up.

Today morning after returning from native, tried using the device. it worked decently on photon plus signal. let metry again in the evening before calling customer care

Re: The DATA Card and USB Modem discussion thread (Reliance/Airtel/Tata)

Guys - I'm in the market for a USB mobile internet / data card.

However, I need some plan with unlimited downloads and with no FUP. I'm fine with 512 kbps speed. This data card will be for home/personal usage (i.e. music+movie downloads via torrents).

I was previously using MTNL Triband (over WiFi) and was paying Rs 999 for a 1 MBPS Unlimited (without FUP).

So the data card needs to be as close a replacement as possible.

Exactly what was happening with my stick. You too need your USB stick to be changed. Tell them you are a regular paying connection and got the connection coz of the TATA name and blah blah In my case it worked, actually that isthe truth too. Between the Reliance and TATA brands it was easy to make the choice.

Now as I said before the connection is a snap and speeds very good. Claims 3.1 Mbps every time I connect but the speed check test does not run any more.
