Its lightning fast, and I reinstall the OS myself every three months to have a clean system. Have the hard drive partitioned into 3 parts of 20G's each.

The lightning fast rig at 2004. Nowadays some mobile will be faster than this .

No offense, just wondering how fast the technology is growing.

had a Dell Dimension 4300 in 2001, sold that after 5yrs of no problem use and built myself a Athlon X2 3800+ based PC with twin GeForce 7300GT in SLi. last year built another (specs below):

AMD Phenom X4 9850 @2.5Ghz PIB
ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe (790FX/SB600 with ATI CrossFireX)
ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB DDR5 (recently upgraded from HD3870 512MB)
OCZ 4GB DDR2 1066Mhz
Seagate 1x250GB, 1x500GB, 1x1TB
Microsoft Sidewinder X6
Logitech MX518/ Razer Lachesis/ Razer Goliathus

Hey nice specs. But why the 17" may I ask? Since you bought it last year you could have gotten a Dell 24 incher IMO.
Which DDR2 1066 ram is that? Is that a OCZ Platinum 2 x 2GB kit? If yes, then how much did it cost you and are those still available? I have been using the 4GB Platinum kit for over 2 years now. Brilliant rams IMHO.
Is your MX518 shedding skin, mine has that problem.

In 2nd thoughts ditch the Dell 24". With this kinda rig go Crossfire plug it up a 42" Full HD and enjoy FULL HD Goodness!!!

i had the 17" before i built the system (had got it to replace the Dell's 17" CRT). couldn't get a new monitor coz i went over budget just for the rig will be getting a 42" LCD soon, so i'm gonna wait.

was looking for the Fatal1ty, but it was not available at that time and i had to go for the next best - the special edition NVIDIA SLi-ready series (OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel). cost me 9k at that time.

btw, i don't have the shedding problem with the MX518. lost the feet, so had put new ones (Everglide). now it's super smooth

Tell me about it. The pace of technology with increasing affordability makes a 4 GB box + dual core seem like run of the mill today. That's the thing with power....it is indeed never enough
