I’m a shoe, clothes, perfume and watch fanatic. Before discovering Apple Watch, I had a nice collection as I would buy a watch once a year. But, ever since I bought an Apple Watch, I have now completely lost interest in the regular watches as Apple Watch is so much more than just a watch. Maybe, I will buy a Patek Phillippe one day...lol!

IMHO, These days everyone uses their phones to check time so a watch needs to do more than just show time. And, here is where AW shines.

Well, I have been using it for approximately 3 days and here is an initial feedback.

1. Like you, I too absolutely love the size of the dial (49mm) compared to the other Apple Watches (44mm). This looks massive on hand.

2. It’s way brighter than regular Apple Watch.

3. My Apple Watch 6 which I was using for 4+ years had decent battery and even till date would last for 24 hours (sometimes little less) which would be little inconvenient. I would wake up with a dead battery or it would die during a long day outside where my Apple Maps is on through the day of driving. Etc. But, Ultra 2 is a battery beast- I charged it only 2 twice till now (once when I unboxed and before I wore it for first time) and as I type, I still have 65% battery left. Imagine in 4 days, it consumed 135% of battery ( 100% + 35% till now from second charge) which is absolutely bonkers.

4. I use the watch a lot for walking, cycling, gym,10K steps challenge with family etc.

5. Apple Maps is wonderful to view on Ultra 2 when I am driving my BMW.

6. I normally keep family pictures (up to 24 pictures in rotation) on my watch and they look crisp, clear and HUGE (example below in pictures posted).

7. This is my first cellular Apple Watch so I step out for a walk and don’t carry my iPhone.

8. Pinch to send messages and receive calls.

9. I listen to a lot of music and this watch helps in a lot in this endeavor.

10. Finally, I can pay using my Apple Credit Card via. The watch (Not sure if it was there before but, I used it for first time yesterday).

Whew! That’s a pretty long list. Will share more as I discover more. For now, it’s a solid upgrade to an Apple Watch 6.

Apple Watch is hands down the best GPS smart watch in the market and is $40 billion revenue stream for Apple (it’s bigger than many companies put together for just one product).

If you want to explore, get a regular AW but, if you have the budget, get the Ultra 2.

I simply love these devices. Cheers & Goodluck

Fit and Finish is topnotch- Looks high quality device.

49mm dial makes the images pop up full screen.

Yesterday, I paid via. watch for this Starbucks drink (Caramel Frappuccino). Damn, that's 500 calories worth. I need to add 5K steps to today's routine.

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

1 Month Ownership Review- Apple Watch Ultra 2

Just returned from a 3-week work trip to India. Put it to proper use for walking, music, pictures, calls etc.

Not all is hunky dory with the Apple Watch, I never thought that I would be able to uncover some of its downsides. Hell, yeah I was able to.

The good and the great

1. Battery is a beast. I am easily getting 3-days which seems unreal as my previous AW was at best 1-day.

2. Bright. During harsh sunlight also, the screen is pretty visible

3. Screen Size- It's massive. Sometimes I feel it's too big.

4. Snappy- Blistering fast machine. Just like my cars.

5. Pinch and Clench features are ridiculously amazing.

The bad

1. Darn watch feels heavy.

2. Being such a large real estate, I keep touching the watch to doors, closets or when I put my hand into our pantry/shelves/closets. I mean every deep corner you try to reach there is a huge risk of scratching the watch. I never felt so concerned about a watch in my life before.

Overall, I"m lovin' it and this will be on my wrist for many years as there is no point upgrading to 3/4/5/6 or whatever version Apple releases next with literally no major changes.

Does it take time to get used to the weight? I was planning to upgrade from my series 8 but if the weight is going to be a problem, I’d rather not.

That being said, I have owned some heavy analogue watches in the past and it didn’t take me more than a few days to get used to the weight. I hope this is the same.

Weight should not be a problem; I moved from Watch 6 to Ultra back in 2022, and it was an easy shift. Moving the other way will be difficult - I recently tried the Pixel Watch 3 (45mm), and that felt way too light

Is there any upgrade (real/ perceived) in the Ultra 2 user interface and quality versus the Ultra.

Are you using any protectors on it? I have the same issues and have few scratches on the sides.

Well, weight is not an issue. It's just that you will feel something sitting on your wrist all the time. The regular Apple Watches exceed in the weight area and it felt way lighter in comparison.

If you are used to it, then you can discard this as any kind of a downside.

Ultra 2 is :

Brighter
Has a faster chip

Other than that, I don't think there is anything extra in 2.

Funnily, we humans always want the latest. If you can bring yourself to buy the 1, please go ahead.

I absolutely despise any kind of protectors on a watch. It takes away the whole experience. I tried it with my Apple Watch 6 around four years ago and immediately trashed it.

Luckily, I don't have any scratches yet but, I will just be more careful rather than buying a protector.

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

I have been using the Ultra for the past year. The watch is larger than the older series 6 I was using prior to that.
The face doesn’t attract scratches despite daily rough use. I am pretty happy with the Ultra at present and I have been using it everyday as my only watch.

Agreed, even I have been using Ultra for around 2 years now, it has aerospace grade titanium which has Moh hardness of 6, you will hardly get any material above this hardness in day to day life to scratch your watch (these portion).

I tried to look for any scratches on my watch, however, couldn't find any and it has been an extended part of me, also undergoes very rough usage. Even the edges of the watch are slightly raised to protect the glass.

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

Faced a weird issue with my Watch S4 over the past weekend. The battery health is still at 82% after 5 years of usage. It was working fine on Friday but just wouldn’t start on Saturday or Sunday. Tried charging it, and it used to get hot within minutes. Also, the display was stuck on the Apple logo and wouldn’t start at all. On Sunday, it started briefly, but to my horror, it had undergone a reset! Tried restarting, and it worked for 5 minutes, after which it went back into limp mode (display stuck on apple logo). Was going to go to a service centre today but decided to just try out my luck yesterday night, and it again started post-reset and has been working just fine (touchwood).

Has anyone faced this issue?

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

I searched though the thread and couldn't find a definitive post, so thought I'd ask.

Please recommend any good 3rd Party Watch Strap makers that are based in India and making high quality products.

Specifically I would want to get NATO Strap and Exercise Bands for my Apple Watch Ultra.

I have bought a few from Daily Objects, the quality is good, price is reasonable while on discount or if you ae buying more than 1. You may want to give it a try.

You could try Starelabs. They seem to have some good bands, a tad expensive but quite good and definitely cheaper than Apple originals

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

Between me and kids, we have a Watch 5/7/8 in the house. This year’s watch 10 is supposed to be quite a big change, so very likely that I will move from my watch 7 to a watch 10. The watch 7 goes to my son who has my older watch 5.

However, I hear that Apple will no longer ship blood oxygen sensors in the watch due to a patent dispute. This is quite sad, as it was very useful during my trip to Ladakh where at higher altitudes, the O2 dipped into the 60s for me. But, I guess a cheap sensor is equally useful.

The only other doubt I have is whether I bother to go with an upgrade to ultra 3 or just stick to the watch 10. The difference is price is substantial and I don’t think I will really need the extra day of battery life as in my current life, I do have the ability to charge every day.
