I have some friends who are into athletics and they prefer Garmin and Whoop instead of Apple watches. I myself use an Apple watch and am content with it. If accuracy aspect is infact true then I happily stand corrected. I appreciate your post and thank you for correcting me.

There is a Youtuber who actually does a quantified analysis of various health tracking features in various smart watches. Linking his channel here --> https://www.Youtube.com/@TheQuantifiedScientist
Will surely watch them sometime soon.

Same – I have a two friends who are into long distance running and cycling, and both use their Garmin watches for the exercise tracking (Fenix 7 and Instinct 2). They both have Apple watch but use more a daily wear and not for the workouts. One reason could be that the Apple watch probably won’t hold up for the full cycling sessions, or will need a quick recharge immediately on return.

The only reason people I knew prefer Garmin (or used after Apple Watch Ultra) was the battery life.

Thats true but Apple Watch Ultra solves that to a large extent and its a much better smart watch and a much more durable watch as well. It does many more things compared to Garmin as well.

Infact the durability of Apple Watch Ultra is utterly astonishing. Knowing this I actually laughed at my friend who asked me why i was wearing my watch without a screen protector. I showed him this video and he took his protector off the very next moment.

Garmin watches are quite popular with serious fitness-oriented folks (at least in my circle), especially their flagship options.

My requirement was for a daily-wear smart watch which works well to track the walks, and can be used for notifications and calls when I am not carrying the phone. And I wear the watch whole day and remove it only when I go to bed. The problem with my previous Watch 6 was it was prone to scratches and the one-day battery life. The Watch Ultra neatly resolved those problems with its rugged body and two-day battery life.

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

After avoiding for a long time, I am ready to jump on smartwatch bandwagon. Few questions to learned folks here. I am planning to pick up GPS+Cellular model to avoid carrying my phone with me on runs etc. Do I need to take a new number or my current airtel postpaid will work? I currently use a 14Pro (If that makes any difference) . Second what is the best place to buy the watch? There is an offer going on Croma where they are giving 2500Cashback on HDFC cards. Is that a good offer?

Please advise

You don't need to take a new number, your iPhone's phone number will be mirrored to the Watch LTE.

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

Just updated my Apple Watch S4 on the latest watchOS 10.3 today; the watch screen brightness has significantly reduced even if it is kept at the highest setting. Is it just me or is anyone else facing this issue too?

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

My 1.5 year old Series 7 is now at 88% battery health. I don’t use this for any workouts or anything and it’s plain simple daily usage. Of course, it keeps tracking it’s usual health & fitness related stuff but nothing specific to workouts / exercise as such.

Of late I started noticing a drop in the battery and hence happened to check the health and I was surprised to see it at 88% !! I never bothered to check this before , but the charging cycles increased and now the watch barely lasts a day.

I usually charge it in the morning say at 8am or so and by night at around 12-ish it’s already under 20%.

Moreover , I have disabled all the background tracking features viz. O2, ECG, Noise measure, etc.

Is anyone experiencing such poor battery? Or is it specific to S7?

Aside, what has to be done once it drops below 80% , as I presume Apple doesn’t replace the Watch batteries? That means I just got to scrap it and go for new watch?

Pardon my noob questions as this is my 1st Apple watch.

I am using my Watch Series 4 since May 2019 and it has now has 83% battery health. I diligently need to put it on charge every evening sometimes twice in a day when I workout or it dies. Am still holding on to it even though the power button doesn't work and even the screen got damaged while playing football. If you are keen on an upgrade then you sure can and pass the watch to someone in your family or probably sell it off too.

They do. A battery swap costs ~10k INR for a Series 7, or free if you have Apple Care+ (Care+ incidental charges will apply).

Apple Watch Support Page has a model-wise 'get an estimate' section.

Not at all! Infact, the latest Apple watches with their incremental updates aren’t even worthy of an upgrade; barring the Ultra series maybe.

Oops! That’s quite steep. Lol, a second hand S7 might be costing in the ballpark of 10k maybe.

Anyway, good to know that there’s an option atleast , though pretty expensive.

Hoping that the battery health doesn’t degrade faster from 88% and lasts for a few months atleast.

My Apple Watch is 6.

It's currently at 80% battery health.

I have never disabled any of its features and use it for my workouts (Strava) and screen is always ON. Besides this the Apple Maps comes on the watch when I am driving.

Example below was for the car navigation. As you can see the nav comes on

1. Apple Watch
2. HUD
3. Main Navigation Screen
4. Front Console

If I get lost despite navigation showing up in 4 places then imagine the height of stupidity.

Point was Apple Watch is working hard through the day and I still get 24-hours of battery life every single day. Hence, I never upgraded to newer ones yet.

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

Need help.

My wife recently got the Apple Watch 9. She has iPhone 15 Pro Max. The watch works flawlessly with the phone except the sleep tracking feature. Though she sleeps wearing the watch and the watch does capture her sleep data such as duration, various sleep cycles etc, it does NOT show up in the Health app of her phone. We have tried googling and also reset/re-pair the two devices but this problem persists.

Any gyan from the experts? I am pure android user and of no help whatsoever to her in this regard.

I hope Sleep “Focus” mode is turned on as when that’s disabled, it won’t track sleep data.

Re: The quintessential Apple Watch thread

Not very happy with the battery life of the Watch 9. Using it since a few days now. Moderate usage for daily use. No workouts etc.

Any tips for charging and maintaining good battery health for the watch?
