Hey Ben, I got my IFB (6kg i think) two years back from viveks and got a good deal. You can check the prices at other stores as well and compare. Make sure you take the extended warranty (just in case) because the service(if required) is a little expensive. I have contacted IFB service centers thrice , twice for change of inlet points as the houses I moved to had different taps and once because my machine brokedown. was in warranty so was resolved without issues.
Yes the service guys dont come after 5 and it can take upto 2-3 days for these guys to drop in ,but on the otherhand these guys are good with their work.
The last time i submitted a request for the service tech (charge 250 per visit) , they sent me the person on the next day.
Infact I got a feedback call a couple of hours back from IFB to enquire if the machine is doing well.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Samarth, I was thinking of getting mine from NEXT on ORR. Will check out Vivek's as well. Thanks for the info.

Guys , anybody got a cd from IFB? I got a cd from IFB in the mail last night (havent checked it yet) and then got a call from the IFB call center verifying if i have recieved the cd. I guess they are working to improve their customer care :)

Thanks for the responses, guys.
IFB is now finalised. Will put up my experiences with the same later.

Between, does anyone have any contacts at IFB? I heard that way one can get a better deal than going through a retail store. PM the details of it cant be posted here.

IFB can be bought directly. three of my friends took it like that. they have taken a DD in the name of IFB payable at Goa and got the machine after two weeks . but it is four years back. price difference was around 20-25% compared to open market. i do not know whether they do it still. now they have online portal for selling. check the prices there

Got a Mag-Lite torch, the bigger one which takes 3 transistor cells. (D size). As it happens with the regular batteries, they have leaked and two of the cells are stuck inside.

Any ideas to:
1. Remove the cells that are stuck inside ?
2. How to dismantle the torch ?

TIA !

I'm looking for a Semi-automatic washing machine. Budget around 6-7k. Any good suggestions ?

You will get whirlpool waali in 7.5k 7kg ones (that extra capacity is really useful)

Guys, My refrigerator went kaput Yesterday. Thinking of buying a new one as this is like 3rd time the same part will be changed in it within 6 months.

Due to space constraint want a 350 - 400 ltr capacity one.

Any suggestions on which one to buy. It should be a robust, trouble free, easy service etc. in all should not go kaput lol:

I am a big fan of Samsung refrigerators. I've had one for 12 years now, no service, no repair.

Also recently we fell in love with a new Siemens fridge, with the temp display outside, white, beautiful. I don't know if it works well, but it's a Siemens, it probably does.

Most of the refrigerators available in the market are similar in build quality.

Shop around, see what you like and pick it up!

LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, Godrej, etc. etc. - they're all decent brands.
Siemens is great but it'll be one of the expensive ones!

Is Kelvinator still being manufactured?

My parents have been using a BPL refrigerator since the early 90's - no problems till I think 2004 or so; required some minor service, and now it continues going on and on and on.

After a lot of research, we bought a Hitachi. These are machines imported from Japan and are a league ahead of the other refrigerators that I have evaluated. It comes at a premium though. I paid 48K for my 438 ltrs unit (R-S37SVND). Another reason for choosing this was that this was the only refrigerator which fit in the space allocated for the refrigerator in our kitchen.

2) Anyone owns a Whirlpool Whitest White washing machine?

Yes. They do make a 6 inch hole in the wall to install the exhaust for the chimney.

Try Kaff or Faber. They are equally good brands. We have Faber at home which is over 4 years old so I dont recollect the price.

Six inch hole is the fact.

I recommend Faber Arco 60 plus model. This looks decent and has a suction power of 1000 cu.m/hr. I installed it recently in my new apt along with a Fusion 465 hob. It cost me about 24k together, both being similarly priced. Also Faber has a good service network here compared to other brands.
