In my opinion, Nikon L110 scores above Sony H55 in all departments (ISO, shutter, zoom etc) except for the battery. L110 runs on AA where as H55 is on Li-ion.

Selective, here are my suggestions in order of pref:
1) Nikon P100 (you would have to bump up your budget here to 19K. VFM considering the prices recently dropped from 22-23K)
2) Nikon L110
3) Canon SX 210 IS
4) Sony DSC H55

JJ Mehta, GK Vale are your best bets in Blore.

Just checked ebay, the Nikon L110 is available for 12,799 +299 shipping, thats 13K through a pretty reputed dealer. How is the price?

eBay India: NIKON COOLPIX L110 DIGICAM + 4GB CARD +BATTERY CHARGER (item 270639563904 end time 24-Oct-2010 11:21:38 IST)

Sammy, the price is a steal but i am not sure of the seller. If shopping online, i would recommend only power-sellers like JKCamera Zone. Better is jjmehta but for a price 13999, with a few freebies thrown it (case+4GB+nikon battery and charger).
A colleague of mine recently bought the L110 in hyderabad for 13700 and paid 700 extra for the camera case.

Oops! I was referring to Canon SX 130 IS. Sorry for that.

L110 may score in zoom but H55 has a better lens, better image processor and also offers some manual control.

I have personally experienced L110. It shoots well in good light but terribly fails in low light. Why anyone wants to go above ISO 800 anyway ?

Sony H55 certainly wins over L110 if not for the zoom.

H55 offers a min shutter speed of 30 secs but the L110 is about 1/4 sec and you CANNOT control shutter speed in L110.

Nikon may win being a "fully automatic camera" with nearly zero user input.

@Sammy,

If all you want to do is "Just zoom, point, shoot", it looks like a great deal

Thanks ET, I am usually wary of dealers on ebay but this one is a old dealer with over 4500 good reviews and he is a power seller. Also, I have never really had a bad experience as I have always stuck to good ones. I also have a Rs500 voucher which will make the price even sweeter.

There is another one even cheaper,

eBay India: NIKON COOLPIX L110 DIGITAL CAMERA + DEALER WARRANTY (item 180574050979 end time 20-Oct-2010 18:46:29 IST)

but as he is not a power seller I did not consider.

@Para_7k : Thanks, i have a pretty limited budget as of now not more than 12.5k or so looking for the most bang for the buck.

I have read some good reviews regarding Kodak Z915 on cnet and I guess that seems like a great basic, under 10K camera with a 10x zoom. But thats a little too basic I guess.

Thanks a lot guys for all your inputs. Nikon L110 looks like a DSLR and I need a slip or midium camera in size. What do you guys think of Nikon Coolpix S6000? It is priced around 13.5k now! Or even Nikon Coolpix S8000, which is priced right at 15K!!! I guess, I am more inclined towards these camera's for now, till I get some more details on the net!

After a lot of reading and understanding I went ahead and bought the Panny FZ35 today. Will be taking a few snaps tomorrow and seeing the results. Will be buying an HDMI cable to see the movie output.

Anyone in Pune know of a good shop to buy some accessories for the FZ35? I am looking for a carry case and some filters.

Hey Guys, finally got my FZ100 home. Took some snaps to get the feel of it.

Initial Impressions (Please keep in mind that my experience with cameras is limited to a Canon A620, Nokia N86 8MP etc..)

1. Great Build quality (compared to the HS10 is checked in Whizz recently). The body, fit and finish, buttons and their operations all get a thumbs up.
2. Snappy performance. There is literally no lag from pressing the shutter button to getting the preview of the clicked snap on the screen. The start-up is a very quick too. I donno the exact numbers (in seconds) but love using it so far.
3. Great Screen and the swivel action is very useful for me.
4. Great Zoom

Here are a few snaps with wide-angle and full-telephoto in the same position. These are all handheld shots in the 'iA' mode and I frankly dont know about any other settings that were in use at this time. I hope these snaps helps anyone looking for samples. I promise to learn how to use it update this thread with better ones

P.S: All pics were taken at 14MP (full-resolution) but inorder to upload them here I had to resize them using MS Office Picture Manager to 1024x768.

Zenstar, congrats on your buy! You posted some good comparitive shots. I loved the wide angle ones. Care sharing how much it burned your pocket?

Para, you are right, the L110 does not allow shutter speed to be controlled. I suggested this as Selective indicated that he wanted it for his father and the L110 being a full automatic fit the bill. And you are right about the low light quality also.

Selective, the L110 is not a DSLR. Its a standard P&S.

guys,

i have a few queries here.
I am using the fuji hs10 for over 4 months now. I have done about 5 trips since its purchase. But most pics taken by me are taken on auto mode.

What i want to know here is, are there any sites where i can get informative videos for learning more features on various modes? I am not very confident using the M, P, A, & S modes.

I really want to know indepth about iso etc to enhance my skills and make the most of my camera.

Thanks.

Check out page 277 on this thread; gopinathann has posted s a few good YouTube videos which will provide you with the basics of photography. Next is to expreriment with your HS10 after learning the basics of Aperture, Shutter Speed & ISO.
