If size is a priority, I am not sure if these would appeal though.
Prices for S5 IS have really crashed. Today I bought a S5 IS for 15,400/- from Palika Bazar, Delhi.

Just bought a canon zoom telephoto 55-250 IS lens for my Rebel XT from Photo Circle. No idea how the dude had it in stock because no one seems to have it online. A friend bought a Canon EOS 40D as well so got both for a really good price.

Duty for digital camera

Was browsing through photography books in Landmark(bookstore) last weekend. In it in the advice section, it was mentioned that the duty for digital cameras and digital SLR's are going to be made 0% from Jan 2008. And it was adviced to postpone any buying decision till the new year, since the camera prices in the grey market and authorised shops is expected to even out.

Dont remember which magazine, as i was browsing through a lot of them. So cannot give any link or solid source. But food for thought.

Bought a Sony T70

@Samurai, only if i read your post on the duty cut i would have postponed my decision. But, thats ok, I wanted a new camera badly as the old one felt very inadequate.

So, bought myself a Sony T70, its a 8M pixel, with 3 inch LCD touchscreen. Have been using it for a week now and feel very happy about. Especially the close macro. It has revealed me a whole new world of close up of rings, buttons, & raindrops.

It was a grey market purchase paid 12500 for it, and a 2 gb card for 1000. I saw the magazine only after i purchased the camera and was browsing through the spencer shopping mall where i bought it.

Nikon D300 reviews is out.....

DCRP Review: Nikon D300

For the first time ever, Nikon beats Canon in noise at high ISO's.

Sat, how about posting some images from your collection.
will do in a bit samurai, have a dial up connection, no broadband here... unfortunately will not be able to post most of mumbai work, all of it is on transparency, guess it would be correct to ask the client/model if its ok with them to post on a forum.

shot interior for taj, oberoi & leela, raymonds, lakme, de beers diamonds etc etc, enjoyed still life too with a 4"x5" sometimes with a 6x9cm roll film back, real pleasure to use the tilt/shift feature... when I spoke to the people who would assist me on shoots till early 2005, they did talk about 'the good old days' of using 4"x5" at times upto 30-40 120 films in a day if one was shooting people.. they mentioned its all digital now...

Finally got my Canon S5 IS today after a long wait, thanks to the holiday season. I havent had much time to spend with it as yet but here are my initial impressions:

1. The camera has a solid feel and DSLR like appearance.
2. The lens cover as stated by a lot of people is something which keeps
popping out often. But, personally it doesnt really pose me a
problem.
3. The battery compartment is something which one needs to get used
to. In other words, its not quite user-friendly.
4. I have shot very few pics indoors as its dusk already and I must admit that
they have come out well. I am waiting for tomorrow when I can try
my novice expertise in day light.

Will post some pics soon. Meanwhile, this is what I got out of the box (except the leather case which I bought separately for $30) which set me back by $333.

Camera manufacturers are improving their cameras in every single aspect but for one, they are still bundling 32MB cards in the cameras

If they bundle 1-2gb cards then who will buy the cards separately? Everybody has to make a living. It's called strategic marketing

You will get these cameras at these very rates, or even a little lower maybe, here in India with B&W. And in gray market these cameras sell for at least another 5k less.

So, do not lug it all the way from wherever you are buying it.
