You mean D3? D300 is already below 2K and is not FF.
40D has 3" LCD, 6.5fps, weather resistant body, live view...etc 400D does not but 450D has almost all the 40D except the weather resistant body and about half the fps.

I did mean the D300. think if the D300 is $1800 and Canon had a current FF at $1999 or even $2200 (the older 5D discounts for $2200, but is not as well featured as the D300) it would seriously hit D300 sales even if it had the 51 point AF.

450D does not have the 11 point AF of the 40D
Right from 300D to 350D and 400D if you compare these cams with 10D 20D 30D 40D, you will see that the AF speed and burst speed is higher on the big brothers

Not only that, inspite of same sensors, the bigger brothers have lesser noise(eg 40D vs 400D)

It pours when it rains. Nikon has announced 7 new P&S cameras and one new dSLR and 3 lenses.

The D40x just got replaced by D60 (with a VR kit lens).

A 16Kg lens, that will be lovely to hand-hold. Wonder how the performance will be at 500mm F2.8?

This PMA the Canikon guys have come up with the dumbest cameras as far has innovation goes(I don't call increasing MP innovation, its a step backwards).
Looks like 5 years from now a Canon or Nikon will be just another DSLR

Has anyone brought cams or lenses from Adorama, BHPhoto or JR at their store in NYC? I have some stopover time in NYC and planning to visit the stores. But they charge a 8.65% Sales tax.

Buy online, you will save tax.
The trick is to buy from a store which is located outside the state.
For example in California order from BH
I am not aware of NY laws, but if there is a tax on online transactions you can avoid it by going to amazon.com.
Anyways the best is to go to resellerratings.com, put in the item. It will list prices from stores.
Chose a store which is reputed. BH, Amazon, Adorama etc., are very reputed stores.

If you are in NY, go to BH store, its an experience for a camera lover.

the 40D is poor at 3200 - most of them exhibit banding. The D300 is usable to 3200 and maybe even 6400.

So they made it public. I had a friend who told me of this (BTW this is just a preview, the chip will be refined and hopefully faster before they release it for consumption) and hence I kept crowing about FF SLRs.

Nikon has a lens that dwarfs the Sigma. I think it is 1200mm or 1500mm. the Sigma is sold with an adapter to push it to 1000mm.

I have and they do chanrge the tax. in fact if you buy online from them they still charge tax if they are delivering within NYS. in NYC you pay NYC and NYS tax.

If you expect them to ship to CA next day air the shipping will eat into the tax savings. BTW B&H has 2 stores in NYC a block from each other. Take the A train and get of at the 34th street station west most entrance. it will save from walking too much in the cold. The wind that comes in across from the Hudson, along the streets can be vicious (wind chills can be below 0F on bad days). from B&H take the 1 to 18th st. then to go to J&R walk to Union square and get the 4/5 get of at broadway nassau and you will behind J&R. this way you can hit all 3 shops in one day (except Fri and Sat).
