The vivoactive 3 does not support course guidance (with or without internet connection).
The vivoactive 3 does not support topo map viewing (with or without internet connection).
A Bluetooth connection to the Garmin Connect mobile app (which will need to use cellular data for GPS location and internet connection) is required for the vivoactive 3's LiveTrack feature to work.
The Forerunner 945 LTE does support all of the 3 feature mentioned, but it only supports the LiveTrack feature (without a BT connection to the Garmin Connect mobile app) through an LTE subscription. This LTE service is only available in limited countries/regions. See below for more information on this.

I have the Garmin nuvi 2557 purchased in the US in 2014. Is there anyway I can run the India map on it? If so, how? Is it worth it? Would it be reliable? I'm happy to spend a few thousand if it works well.

This unit has lifetime free map and traffic updates (for US though).

Yes, you can download the map of any country from here - http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/
It can be copied to the Garmin unit and it can co-exist with the Garmin map. If there is no space in the unit, it can be copied to the external memory card, if the unit supports it.
This is a free option. Paid maps can be obtained from vendors like MapMyIndia, HERE, and other vendors.

Looks like it. I had downloaded the maps a couple of years ago and is still serving well.

I had been using the OpenStreetMap for ages for my Garmin device. I will give you the link to the download page here for India (the latest 24th March 2022):https://alternativaslibres.org/en/do..._India_DEM.zip

It is about 2.5 GB download. I had downloaded the January month map earlier. I would rate the OSM as one of the best maps out there after using it for more than 7 years. I had given a detailed writeup about downloading and using it for Garmin PNG somewhere here.

Connect your Garmin to your laptop. It will show up as a USB drive. Navigate to the location where you see the gmapsupp.img file. Download the file to your computer as a backup. Replace the file with your downloaded file. You are done.

Thanks for the input, I guess this will also work on my antique reliable Garmin Nuvi 216 model. If anyone is using OSM on this model, do please share your reviews. My last update on gmap was from 2015.

Edit: While googling found this site...https://www.userbeam.de/osm/maps/asia/india/ is this reliable too from OSM point of view ?
& also tried to figure out something from BBike.org here our requested OpenStreetMap area 'India' was extracted from planet.osm
