Has anybody used the Garmin-Asus Nuvifone G60.

Yesterday i happened to see one in Inorbit mall, Hyd. I look and feel was excellant. It runs on Linux OS and was reasonably fast. Couldnot test the GPS capability inside the mall.

The sales person couldnot tell me much regarding coverage provided by the map. Can we install MMI or Satguide maps on this device?

I checked this too on Saturday @ Star City, Koramangala and found really fast and cool. Priced @ Rs.18000/-. Its has docking station with car fittings. I was not able to check it with putting a sim card as sales persons was bit lazy. Its having the All India Map.

here is the Demo: http://www8.garmin.com/nuvifone/

I saw this in Times of India today. G60 is rated as the top 10 worst phones. May be because of other feature lack.

Hi guys,
I recently bought the 265T here in the US and downloaded some map from the net. I placed the .img file in the Garmin folder. But when I try to search address, I cannot find "India" the "Country". However, if I search POIs "near other city" and enter Bangalore, it is able to search. Any idea what is wrong? Not being able to search the address is a serious shortcoming.
Please help

Thanks!

It's some old version of the map available on-line. New ones are also available, download those.

Hey guys
I am planning to buy a Garmin GPSMAP 76csx from the US a relative is coming back mid next month who will carry it for me
Earlier I was planning to buy the Garmin India maps that retail for U$D 99 but after going through this thread I am in a dilemma
  1. What maps should I buy that will work with this device (GPSMAP 76csx) Garmin India Maps/ MapMyIndia or the SatNAV maps
  2. Will the MAPMYINDIA or SATNAV maps be more detailed than the GARMIN India maps???
  3. Of the above 3 maps On what maps will the routing be available
  4. I do not want navigation but the prospect of the feature available is always nicer

Navigation works on all three.

Garmin India mpas are from Navteq (owned by Nokia). It covers ~100 cities.

In terms of coverage (No of cities)

MMI->Satnav->Garmin

In terms of Quality of Data->

Garmin->Satnav->MMI

I would suggest use ither Garmin maps or Satnav/Satguide. Garmin maps cost $99, Satguide costs INR 2k.

thanks for the answer buddy, but I am checking and the MMI website says that their maps are compatiable only with Nuvi devices and the GPSMAPS series doesn't reflect in the list

Is it just that they have not tested it or it simply doesn't work??

HEy Guys I posted the following queries on another thread, but thought that it would be wise to post my queries on this thread too, for everyone's benefit

  2. What about those who have have a Garmin device loaded with the Garmin India Maps. Is is possible to simply take out the SD card with the Garmin India maps and put in the SD card with MapmyIndia maps. Wont that work??
  3. I havent used any ofthe devices so am clearing my doubts, as I am planning to buy a Garmin GPSMAP 76csx in the near future!

The dealer said that I can use Satguide maps which come for 628 cities and 20lac POI's. These maps are available for 2200 approx though the dealer was asking 2500 for that.
Not taking his word for it I got in touch with the Satguide helpline (I think in Hyderabad) and the executive dint confirm anything at first but took note of my query and my phone number. She got back to me in 20 mins and confirmed that SatGuide maps work with Garmin devices and specifically I asked about GARMIN GPSMAP 76CSX and its there on their list of compatible devices. Further she said as the 76CSX accepts only micro sd cards, if we give a special request they will send the 1GB card in misroSd format.

So now I have to decide between Garmin 76CSX or 60CSX!!! Please help me out.
Going prices on Amazon is
US $290 for the 76CSX
US $298 for the 60CSX

Pl advise guys
Cheers
Now the latest is that I've finalised the GPSMAP 76CSX. I will be ordering in the next couple of days and the GPS will arrive on the 21st of march

First you need to unlock it
GpsPasSion Forums - Navigon 2100 Unlocking FAQ
After that you can install Destinator(Satguide), Garmin Mobile XT with satguide map from Satguide, or Mapmyindia Mireo software.
