I have used mainly the MireoViaGPs with MMI maps in the navigator.

I have Satguide and Garmin Mobile XT in my HTC. But I have not used them much yet.

Since my travelling is limited, I rarely get a chance to sue them.

But MMI maps are quite good even for my area.

As per today evenings experience:-

Used Combi: Garmin/Navteq Map, From Office to Home

ORR from Old Madras Road to Ramamurthy Nagar junction is not properly mapped. Service roads and intersection are wrong. Although Garmin/Navteq shown the alternative correct routes.

@NetFreak, I tried installing the jBed JVM and is not working. Since I remember you saying that MGMAPS worked successfully, could please tell me which JVM you used?
Edit: Could be out of luck since your device is different and might have a different CPU

Well the upcoming Polnav6 is really a rocker in terms of software. Better/as good as Garmin. Tested on a Evaluation Copy.

Nice interface, great search, ability to demo the preferred route at various speed level etc are some of the great features included in this. The only let down is new maps are not available . I have used the Q1 Navteq 2008 India Map for this test.

When using search it shows only the characters /city name already in the database, no need to type it full and later get a msg city not found

Most JVMs that I downloaded id not work on this PND. It does ot include full OS it seems. This was tricky. Unfortunately did not keep track of things that were done to get it running.

Don't have the PND with me at the moment. Have ordered another one. Will post a tutorial once I get that.

Ultimately had to whip out eVC and compile JRE myself. If you want, you can try that on emulator and then start commenting out modules till it works on PND. Once that worked for simple apps it gave hints for troubleshooting and adding missing files for other JREs.

To do that, download phoneme and compile it for this PND.

And Google for JVM threads on Chinese IPhone knock offs. That have similar issue (built in JVM is not up to mark, it has to be hacked).

Does the Garmin GPS come with a calculator and a scratch/writing pad ? I just took a demo of a Bharat Nav GPS and this one does.

Thanks for that info. But the maps comes from Satnav/satguide and their maps are not up to the mark till now when compares to MMI.

Regarding the calculator and scratch pad, The Chinese PND's work as mini computer - you know what i mean; Internet access, msoffice, photo viewer , mp3 player, video player etc with 1/3 of the cost of any other who sells as car navigation system.

Yes. it is a free download on Garmin's site. This software (Mapsource) can be used to plan route to PC and then send it to device via USB.

You can add custom POI, add maps etc from this software.

I seem to have suddenly broadened the range of the discussion. I wonder how much the impact of the 'to be released' Andriod based software (open source) have. Also, as for errors in maps these will always be there, and one has to upgrade frequently to reduce these.

Android will give free turn by turn google maps on your phone. So its bound to hit the mobile phone GPS market.

Thanks. I also figured that out. Installing it now.
Now only question remaining is, will Mapsource work with Satguide provided maps, which we buy for India?
Which means, can I plan my route and transfer it to device running on Satguide?
