nairrk,

The unit looks fine for most apps. The only problem might be trying to get Garmin XT to run on the unit as its known to be bit of a bugger for wanting lots of memory.

The picture shows it running tomtom so I think you will be able to run the usual mapmyindia, destinator etc etc on it without problems.

I was planning to buy the nuvi 205W or the 255W and add the Satguide maps. Can experts comment if this is a good combination?

Its configuration is robust.

What is the make/brand? That would determine how easy/difficult it would be to put India maps on this unit.

YEs it should do with the right software and maps loaded on it. You might still have to ask for directions as some of the mapping is not 100% accurate. For example if I put my village into mapmyindia the location it gives is about 1.5KM away and marked where another village exists.

Actually "SIRF Atlas III" is the name of CPU. This chip is CPU + GPS on single chip.

Device itself would have this CPU + Windows CE running on this.

You would need to find out how to access Win CE and install packages on this.

OTOH since this is on ebay.in, it would most probably have India maps out of box. Ask this from seller.

To be exactly its ARM CPU(372MHz for no name chinese, and 400MHz for reputed companies).
The ARM CPU and the Sirf Star III GPS core sit on the same die(SoC)
Most chinese units have the chip manufactured by Samsung. I think Globesat uses chip manufactured by ST Micro

Windows CE runs on the ARM CPU, the Sift IIIs job is to get the position fix

This Product was described as '' SiRF ATLAS @ 400 MHz.
So if it is from reputed companies, then there will be a brand name !

I have asked the Seller to give details about make/brand and if India map already installed.

Thanks

Not necessary. Many small chinese Manufacturers use the Samsung manufactured 400MHz chip instead of the cheaper 372.
Its better to get the 400MHz one as performance will be better

The seller advise the product is unbranded.
However, Indian maps are already installed and ready to use. Further one can istall any software/maps (running Win CE5.0) on the 2GB card provided.
Thanks.

Still no package! Got through to the FPO in Ahmedabad and they tell me that the only thing they know is that my package is not held up by customs. Other than that they don't know where it would be!

Have checked with mapmyindia website and they have mainly talking about 3 models i.e LX130, VX140 and Delphi
LX130 and VX 140 are manufactures by SIRF ATLAS A3 (as written in the product description) and they 372MHz.

Delphi Nav is manufactured by Samsung with 400MHZ

Prices: LX130-RS.10990 (may be the samething I seen it in ebay for Rs.9999/-)
VX140 - Rs.14990 and Delphi - Rs.14,490

Any suggestions please?

Thanks
