You always have a choice sgiitk. If you are willing to use free and open source software or maps, then you can beat the software cost.

Could you let me know how you got Garmin working on it? I've tried twice and have not been able to get that working. Maybe I'm missing something in the instructions. Send me a PM please.

Maps cost just 2k. Hardware costs way more then that.

I have slightly different opinion.

GUI: Garmin->MMI->Destinator

Cool... by the looks of it Customs did not bother to open and inspect this package. Mine (and Wildon's) was opened, inspected and resealed.

What I like about Garmin is its search.

For example if you are in Mumbai, and want to go to "Shreedhar Complex" in Surat. Just select "Where To" and type Shreedhar Complex. It will show all POI that match this name in India. Sorted by distance from current position.

Just select appropriate search result and press "Go".

No need to jump though multiple screens to first select state and then city and category.

Folks,

I just checked what does Garmin offer as a map data? Found out that if offers a maximum of 24 cities for 9.2K price. This is too high. I feel GUI comparison does not make as sense, as long as we are not aligned on the basic content that is on offer across vendors.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Exactly. Very easy to use. Destinator is a real pain in this aspect.

9.2k is cost of Navteq 2008 Feb maps which are very much outdated and have limited coverage.

Garmin maps are also sold by others.

E.g. MMI seels it for 7k. Satguide sells them for 2k.
