Guys, Any idea as to when is the next N82 firmware upgrade coming? I am hoping to see brighter screen and probably the navi wheel option.

@Ram...???

Had you been interested in a used E50, it is available here -> Team-BHP Classifieds - Nokia E50 Black 1gb Micro SD card. - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

I guess it is still not phased out (despite having E51 on the market for quite some time). So if you hunt around at popular stores, they should still be carrying it. Last I heard, it was priced around 6.5k in Delhi.

Need help guys. I am trying to use Mgmaps with google on my N82. Anyone know what custom url should i put for it to work? I am also using the tool from the mgmaps website to download the map tiles from Google. Right now I am trying to download a map of Bangalore with 18 zoom. In 3hrs it downloaded some 25 mb or a fast broadband connection. Is this normal?

I am thinking about buying a chinese mobile phone that has several features. I understand that it's not reliable and doesn't come w/ bill+warranty. My question is: Is it true that the frequencies/wave length that those mobiles operate at are harmful healthwise?

heavy_foot : custom url ? mgmaps would ask u permission to use gps and permission to send n recieve data. Accept these two and it will show u the map of ur location. the download will be faster on wifi obviously.

But why not use the inbuilt Nokia maps ?

Did not need to use any custom url for it to work on N82.

Downloading tiles is tricky. Tool waits for 10 ms between tiles so that google wont kick you out.

Even then lots of tiles are error ones. Check size if its 3kb then open that tile in notepad. If you see some text then google blocked you out for few hours.

@ AZA and NetfreakBombay, i am using the v1.39.15 of mgmaps. They have removed the inbuilt support of the google maps as a result of some problems with google. However google maps can still be used after linking the url of google maps to the application. I am trying to figure out what url is that. BTW the yahoo maps work fine and download pretty fast. when i choose google i just get a no map tiles screen.

If they have to work anywhere as per standards, they will have to use the same frequency / wavelength as other makes (you don't expect Airtel etc. to put up a separate infrastructure for Chinese phones, do you?).

Whether microwaves are harmful for health is a debatable point and the subject of a lot of myths. Currently there is no data from objective studies anywhere to prove it concretely either way.

Thought E71 costs 22 with bill.

Used it, its faster than my E51, better cam with flash and 2GB.

Which is a good phone for around 5.5k-6k? Bluetooth, FM & Cam are must. Nokia or Sony anything will do. The phone will be used by my sister.

Edit - How is the W350?

Did not realize it. I use mgmaps in "offline" mode to avoid GPRS usage and have stored Mumbai & Pune's tiles on card.

Current version of mgmaps does work with google maps in offline mode, and as you mentioned it no longer downloads google maps over gprs.

There is a provision to add the url for custom maps in the " map types " section. Once you add the google maps url there, it will download the google maps over gprs/wifi. I am still trying to figure out the URL for google maps.

I am looking for an email capable business phone primary for official use.
Nokia N71 and BlackBerry 8820 are meeting my criteria. Blackberry is priced at around 30K and N71 at 20K. N71 seems to be feature rich compared to the 8820.
Is there anything I have missed to compare.
Also is there any other phones comparable to these models in India.

Perhaps you should compare E71 instead of N71. E71 is a decent business phone.
