re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

hi all,
Need some help regarding warranty claims.
We have an LG optimus black bought just 2 months back. Unfortunately some water spilled over it and it started to have problems and finally stopped booting also.

Gave it to LG service center and they said as it is a case of liquid spill, it will not be covered by warranty.

Now can anyone confirm if it true that warranty will not cover liquid spills?

Secondly, the motherboard cost is almost 10k and i have no intention of getting it repaired paying so much. Is there any one else (private parties) who can repair such phones? Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Yes it's true that warranty does not exist for liquid spills. You can try contacting guys dealing in grey market products, these guys may be of help to you or check local mobile market who deal with all kid of handsets including second hand handsets. They may be of help.

Liquid damage is not covered under warranty. It is considered as negligence of the owner.

Don't get it repaired at such a high price. Even after changing the MoBo, there is no guarantee that it would work reliably. Other components such as display might also have been affected by the liquid spill.

Visit some nearby mobile stores. They would guide you to some mobile repair stores.

Update on my Nokia N8 since the Belle update :

Battery life strangely seems to have been better of late. I have moved to the N8 as full time phone , earlier had 6630 for talk/SMS and N8 for 3G/smartphone use only. Full charge can last me a day pretty easy, sometimes almost 2 depending on usage. I carry my USB cable to office anyway.

Still no fix from Nokia about the not-playing-anymore flv videos, they used to play fine before the Belle update. Nokia Belle FAQ page says they are working on it.

Google Maps donot work in Nokia BELLE #

Strange but true. I removed and reloaded Google Maps twice in my Nokia N8 only to find out that it would not open even after installation. Is anyone facing the same problem out there and have you found a way out? Or has Nokia tweaked something to block Google maps in its handsets or on Belle handsets? Cause Ovi store don't offer Google maps anymore, i had to download directly from Google site?

^^^Its available for 11.5k online. Imported ones sans warranty can be had for around 9k or so. Don't know about offline shops. Other than the severe battery issue, the screen feels really small for an Android phone. I guess it will severely limit the experience. I'm guessing, ven seeing maps on such a small screen may be a bit frustrating. App comparability may also be an issue. Save for this, I'd be inclined to pick it up myself.

Also, in HTC's tradition, I'm sure the cam must also be below par.

baba,

I dont think you noted that the screen is 320x480 i.e adequate for that small a screen (others are worse). Apps compatibility - why would it be an issue?

Cam on any such phone is normally subpar unless you spend twice as much.

PS: link for 11.5k?

^^^I never said resolution is bad. I said screen size seems small for a an Android ph. Apps can be an issue because the screen size/resolution is non-standard. Some apps may not be supported, from what I'v read. No personal experience with the Chacha though. Have only tried it out for a short while at a shop.

Cant agree with you about the cam. It has a 5 MP cam. And if its typical HTC cam, it will be of significantly lower quality when compared to the typical Samsung or Sony cam. So its not about spending twice as much. Its about comparison with its peers!

Without any doubt this is one of the best combo for SGS2. Have been using it since V6 launch. This guy is amazing.

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Looking for a nice phone(for a student) within a 15k price limit.

I've almost narrowed down to the Defy/Defy plus.

The best deal I'm getting for the plus is around 14.8k at ebay. I'd like to know if it's a good price and if I can get a better deal.

Thanks in advance.

^^^Get it for 100 bucks less on Sulekha. But eBay may be a better option as difference is very low.

Hope you know its cam (still and vid both) is its weak point.
