re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Can somebody please suggest a good bluetooth headset for the Sony Xperia Pro which is not too expensive, does the job and can last reasonably long through abuse? I have hardly found any till now through my searches and the ones suggested don't carry good reviews on reliability in terms of sturdiness. Many thanks in advance.

Though Sony updated it to Android 4, there is no announcement of 4.1, which I am personally waiting for. Its been over an year that we got it and its build quality surprises me still.

Its a stylish phone and will not be mistaken for "another Android" phone category.
Thanks Ratan. This phone is for my dad, who wants phone with smaller display. So, Android versions and upgrades are not his worry and I am sure he will never upgrade and break his head for all these things. I guess, I should go for this.

Experts , between the Huawei Ideos X3 and Lenovo A60+ , which one do you recommend ?
The X3 has a slower processor but a better camera at the back and a camera on the front. The Lenovo on the other hand has a bigger battery. Both are, in my opinion, one of the better chinese brands , than the ones the Indian "brands" source from.
The phone is for someone who needs basic smartphone functionality.

both are okay dokay honestly. Indian brands aren't THAT bad as u seem to make them out to be. neither sell in India, wonder where you'll get service!

that said, you get enough equivalent phones from micromax in that 5-6k budget. lenovo is heavy and both have measly 256mb RAM (inadequate for android!). why not http://www.homeshop18.com/karbonn-a1...d:3027/?pos=22

the ideos will be slow as well!

Hehe, Samsung managed to beat Nokia hollow in this department too.

Samsung Kies, makes Nokia PC Suite look like a polished software. It (Kies) is one of the most pathetic packages written by any of the major companies.

For example, till few weeks back it required an Admin account to run, it has a 10 page "howto" for connecting to phone over WiFi.

Oh dear, that's sad to hear: no buying plans for a couple of years, but might well buy Samsung next time.

Kies is also the only software that causes my macbook to heat up. The fan starts whirring like mad everytime I launch Kies.

But then why do you depend on KIES when there is ODIN for firmware updates and default PlugNplay for data tranfer?

You can also try using KIES wifi. Just requires a browser and router. Thats the only version of kies i like. But now im off Kies completely.

Hello everybody.
Can someone help in finding best deals on S2 and htc One S? What should be the ideal price to opt for under manufacturer's warranty? And the street price ?

Thanks phamilyman!!
I thought since flipkart lists them , and are said to be sold with Manufacturer warranty , no problems with service in a place like Pune.

Didnt low end phones from Samsung/HTC/etc run on similar specifications on these two on gingerbread, till about last year ?

The phone in your link looks really interesting. Thanks again for that.

KIES is not "required" but it can make life easier if it works. Things like:

1. Importing contacts/sms/calendar from Nokia phones
2. Backup of SMS (for others, Gmail does the job easily)
3. Management of podcasts
4. Automatic download of Firmware as new files are released, update is applied phone is connected next time (though, have not seen it working EVER!!!)

Im listing the alternatives to your points below:-
1. Import contacts using sim card - Ive around 200 contacts and when I got phones other than Symbian, I used this method.
2. Use Backup software like Sandisk Backup on the phone to backup everything to a memory card.
3. For podcasts I have iTunes
4. Firmwares released anywhere around the world for a samsung phone, are first updated on SAMFIRMWARE. You can download the latest firmware from there and flash it via pcODIN, which is a hassle free process compared to the migraine inducing KIES

These are not "cohesive", require too many steps from end user. While all it takes is 4 clicks in Kies (fact that this does not work well is the problem).

If Kies was written properly, it could have been a very useful tool.

For Firmware upgrades etc, I too prefer ODIN but it is a dangerous tool in hands of end users that are not tech savvy. It is far too easy to mess up partition table on phone if wrong options are selected.
