I have no experience with the Lumia 610 (online reviews seem to suggest that its a pretty decent device) , but it was available for 9,999 on Homeshop18 earlier this week (Flipkart is 12k+) , which , IMHO, makes it a very fair deal.

One of my friends bought this for his wife sometime back, specifically for these purposes only(FB, Whatsapp, emails, occasional calls, net).
Its been troublefree so far, except for the battery which used to last a working day(6to6, am to pm.), due to constant and heavy 3g usage.
Now, though, its settled.
I think he put a battery app or changed it to 2g only.

I suggest you also have a look at the Sony Xperia SL. It is not officially launched in India but it is available on infibeam for Rs. 30999.
-It has a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S3 processor.
-12.1 MP camera with 1080p video recording and also a 1.3 MP front. facing camera.
-Has 32 GB inbuilt storage of which 26 GB is available for users.
-4.3 inches scratch resiatant scree which is the most important. according to me.
-Has NFC technology and HDMI out.
-It comes with 4.0 ICS but will soon get the Jelly bean upgrade.
-And last but surely not the least. It comes with Sony mobile Bravia. Engine

Thanks for the responses. Bought the Lumia 610 and just realised that it does not have memory card and cannot use the bluetooth to send and receive messages.

According to a Nokia fan page, it seems, due to popular demand, Nokia has decided to enable bluetooth file transfer and a few other things like custom ringtones etc in a later update. But i feel it maybe just speculation.

About the memory card issue, sadly its to do with microsoft and not Nokia per se. Microsoft decided not to give an extra memory card slot and all manufacturers had to comply.

Congrats on the new phone. Youll love how things get done in a snap with the windows phone.

- Front camera.
- Build quality should be as good as my nearly 5 yr old Nokia 6500 S.
Sony Xperia Miro would be perfect for you.
- 5MP camera with autofocus
- Android ICS OS
- 800 MHz processor and Adreno 200 GPU
- 3.5 inch display with good viewing angles and decent colour saturation (for an LCD display)
- VGA front camera
- Good build quality

It has just been launched. Wait for a few weeks for the price to stabilise.

Thanks Rohan. However, I think Sony is stretching their luck a bit by charging almost 15k for a phone with an 800 Mhz single core processor.
My hunt for the "perfect" 15k phone continues...

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

I am confused with Xperia series on the following models:

Sony Xperia Sola : Non-detachable battery (If i am correct). In that case what if the battery is found defective or runs out of life ? entire phone has to be scrapped ? Or is there a way to replace the battery only ? Is this a design defect or has some logic behind it. Also there are number of reviews bashing the poor battery performance.

Sony Xperia U : Doesn't have expandable memory slot. Only internal phone storage which is default 8 GB out of which only 4 GB is accessible. As per their website they are offering 50 GB cloud storage for a limited period. Does this suffice the memory slot dearth ?

Ebay prices for Sola are 30 to 35% low than other online shopping sites. Wonder why

Xperia Sola - You are right. The battery is not removable. If you open the back cover you will not be able to see the battery. If the battery is defective you will not be able to remove the battery and insert it again on your own (you many if you have the right tools but I think you might void your warranty if you play around). Better to take it to a service center (it will be covered under warranty for 1 year only). If after 1 year the battery goes you will need to get the battery replaced from the Sony center only - The entire phone will not be scrapped. You may have removed the battery in your previous phones whenever they got stuck - Not in Sola. If your Sola gets stuck you need to press some buttons (I think its volume key and unlock key) to restart the phone.

Xperia U - Different people have different usage patterns. For some 4GB might be sufficient but for others not. If you only intend to put songs on the phone then I think it is sufficient. But for a person like me who puts video files too on the phone - 4GB is not at all sufficient. I have never used this cloud storage thing - just not comfortable using it.

I thought Ebay prices are always lower than online shopping sites like Flipkart. It might also be that Sola etc are not popular models.

P.S - My father owns a Sola and he is quite happy with it. Battery is sufficient for his usage. 3 days peacefully with only calls/messages. 2-2.5 days with some internet usage in between. Remember the battery life depends on your usage.

There is no perfect sub 15k Android phone in India. Something or the other would always be missing in a sub 15k Android phone.

Motorola Defy+ : Good processor and display, but camera not good. No front camera.

Samsung Ace Plus : No front camera, low resolution display, overpriced.

Sony Xperia Miro : Weak processor, low resolution display, overpriced.

HTC Desire C : No front camera, weak processor, low resolution display, low battery backup.

I would suggest you to increase your budget slightly and go for a 4 inch model like Samsung Galaxy S Duos or Galaxy S Advance.

You could also check out Huawei G300.
