Nokia C-7 is not a good choice if someone aims to install apps.

With Symbian on its way out, most app developers are moving to other platform.

Pretty good device if someone wants to use it as a phone.

Not any more. Those were the good old days. The build quality of Nokia has reduced very much on cheaper phones now.

I would be using the phone mostly for telephony, messaging, GPS navigation, photos, music and video playback only.

I am not very interested in installing apps, I don't like to use the phone as a mini computer.

C 7 would fit the bill for these tasks. GPS navigation would work too as long as OVI maps cover the area.

Other developers like Garmin and Sygic have discontinued their products for Symbian.

I did some reading on it. The OS seems to still be the same as on N8. Any updates. I feel 29K is too much. I rather invest 10K more for an iphone.

Awesome News.

If you compare the specs you will see the difference. For hardcore Techies/Developers iphone is not good. I won't go through the details again here, as you can check numerous articles about this on web.

Please don't think I hate Apple. I love the Butter Smooth UI Games etc. But Nokia is amazing in giving you the features long back what other companies have started now.

Get iphone for Entertainment
Get E7 for Business Use + Entertainment

Already i feel its way too too overpriced! For 30000 INR, you simply cant ignore these three facts-

1. The last of its kind phone. A withdrawn platform!
2. FIXED focus camera with poor quality oversharpened results, which is plain stupid for a 30k phone, no matter how many megapixels it carries.
3. Phone hanging and software crashing issues, as reported commonly with the N8 as well.

Also the lower specs of 680 MHz processor and only 256 MB RAM. Who would pay 30k for such a phone.

@CrAzY dRiVeR, I agree with you.

Being a dying platform, with lower specs than the N8, they should have priced it at Rs. 18,000, not a paisa more.

It is so much less phone than the Rs. 22,642 Nokia N8.

The Nokia E7’s camera has neither autofocus nor Xenon flash -- both strengths of the earlier Nokia N8.

And the E7 has no microSD card memory expandability.

And the “HDMI-Out” and “USB on-the-go cables” which came free with the Nokia N8, are no longer part of the Nokia E7 sales package.

The Nokia N8 can be slowly charged by connecting it to a PC, via microUSB. It can also be charged at the regular speed, by using the familiar charger with 2 mm jack. However the “new” Nokia E7 has no 2 mm jack facility!

Nobody disputes that the Symbian smartphone platform started the smartphone trend.

Despite their early lead, Symbian's leadership could not manage to attract as many smartphone applications (apps) as iOS or Android.
Now, with substantially less money to be made, and a platform that Nokia has proclaimed they will discontinue in two years, why will developers want to develop for Symbian at all ?

Had Nokia joined the Android revolution, their phones would have combined superlative hardware with solid software, but that was not to be.

The villains? Microsoft! A relative nobody in the smartphone ecosystem, Microsoft paid Nokia over a billion dollars to keep them away from Android.

The Nokia E7 is a case of too little, too late from Nokia.

And a clueless Nokia India MD has this to say:

We will phase out Symbian in about two years: D Shivakumar, MD, Nokia India - The Economic Times

re: The Mobile Phone Thread - Queries, decisions, discussions all here

Let's forget the who paid what for MS-Nokia deal and all that..after all everything is fair in love, war and business..

Let's discuss how this deal would change the mobile market, anyone would like to kick-off the discussion ?

Nokia's Windows phones would not be available till mid 2012.

At the current pace of growth, thats far too late to have any meaningful impact on market.
