This model was known as inspirong 6000 before. what bad things did u exactly hear? Some people have a problem with screen sparkle after getting a Trulife display. LOL Wonder why they get tru-life in the first place.

Alienware is one strong Boutique notebooks and Desktop pc manufacturer. It's now a part of DEll though a separate arm.

While there are quite a lot of boutique manufacturers I would like you to check out Voodoopc and falconNorthwest which are one of the biggest names and also has some exclusivity.

Also check out the savrow coputers. One is a limited edition Monza V-8 racing notebook.

Some other good names are widowpc, hypersonic PC Eurocom pc, boxx, puget computers, etc.

you would also want to read the history behind the incorporation of widowpc.

It's fun surfing thir websites.

what i heard was that the support was bad and that they would fight and blame it on you if anything went wrong under warranty.

Nope. their support is not bad. Some people expect boutique manufacturers to do wonders with the notebook and desktop pc's. but these are nothing but high-end pc's with customized exteriors and Alienware and some others go ahead to also give you customized desktop screens.

review the reseller ratings of these manufacturers here.

Believe it or not. Asus is the best notebook manufacturer in the world. never seen such build quality at such a price.

Asus used to make macbooks before.

About the lamborghini. I really liked the concept but it lacks the real power. Wait until they plug-in the merom CPU. Yonah is crippled. the concept of mini notebook application without opening the laptop is nice.

I was looking around for a notebok for college and have kinda decided on this

HP dv6000z

Processor AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Mobile TL-56 (1.80GHz/512KB)

Display 15.4" WXGA Widescreen (1280x800)

Graphics Card 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200

Memory 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)

Hard Drive 60 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive

Primary CD/DVD Drive Super Multi 8X DVDR/RW with Double Layer Support

Networking 802.11a/b/g WLAN & Bluetooth

Primary Battery 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

Price - $1469

I have a couple of questions about this machine

1. Does the dual core 64 bit processor make that much of a difference?
2. When is Intel going to launch its dual core 64 bit processor? What is the difference between Core Duo and Dual Core?
3. Will this configuration be able to run Windows Vista and use all its features?
4. Should I wait till Windows Vista is launched?
5. Should I buy the computer online or wait for a good deal to come up.
6. Fujistu has a model with a Turion 64 X2 processor. SHould I consider that? Can you buy Fujistu in the States? How expensive is it?

Thanks
Adhish

Go for a compaq presario notebook if you want VFM. For all the bling bling HP pavilion is nice. QUickplay on Hp's is a nice feature and you also get a remote control on some models. I wouldnt buy fujitsu-siemens as its a Europe Only brand and support would be tough.

I own a compaq R4000 with AMD 4000+ Socket 939.

Among the two Hp has a better gpu. ATi 1100 is is smashed by Nvidia 7200which is again a budget gpu.

-select brightwview display for better contrast and colours.
-HP loots on RAM. get 256 and install memory from a local. go for a dual-channel DDR2 800.
- If you are storing movies you would want 80gb 5400
- Better save on DVD riter if you dont use it. I dont and feel I have spent without reason.
- get a 6 cell battery. 12cell increases wegiht too much. I have a 12-cell.
-better take the webcam option too and HP travel mouse is slick and small.I have one and its really portable.
-Try to use AAP (Academic purchase program) where you usually get A discout of upto $100.

If you dont want a webcam and are not going to game then xpress 200M does a pretty good job on basic games and movie. Hence you can save with dv5000.

now to your questions.

1. IN current OS- No. In windows vista -certainly yes
2. Intel is launching the Merom (64-bit) in August. Core duo is a name given by intel to its dual core cpu as AMD calls their dual cores X2. merom is said to be the best intel creation until now. But Turion is anyday a better budget cpu.
3. why not? Even HP calls them vista ready.
4. Nope. Coz then you would want to wait for Wi-fi N and then blu-ray cum hd-dvd Rom and then MXM graphics and then Quad-cores etc etc etc.
5. Hp is not known to give deals but you can try APP as I said. I called them up and ordered my notebook online along with the phone assistance. Got the student kit (kensington lock, mouse and bag) free from the phone assistant after a bit of bargaining. Also ask for cash back instead of the free All in One.
6. Are you talkin about Fujitsu-siemens or fujitsu? Fujitsu has amd notebooks in USA and are good quality but expensive. I would still recommend HP. You can consider Acer, Averatec and Asus though. Averatec is the best value out there but no support in India. Also look at 12" MSI Turion X2 which retails for less than $1000 with bluetooth.

you would also want to look at the following.

The dv5000 doesnt have the dual core processor which is in the dv6000

I need battery life and so I thought I should go in for the 12 cell battery. do you think the 12 cell battery makes that much of a difference? If it does I think Ill take it

How does one register for the APP when studying in a Canadian Uni?

are you sure you need dual-cores? you are saving quite a few hundreds of dollars here. Look for usability instead of craze.

yes 12-cell increases battery life but weight too. It is worth getting a 12-cell battery for its life but certainly not for the weight. rest depends on you.

when you visit the website search for "APP". Also being a UFT student you can go to student instead of home and home office.

prices are always cheaper.
