Get the ones which have the AMD Turion 64 or 64 X2 processors. Those are good.

Try the Compaq Presario 6102. It has Turion64, 1gb ram, 100gb hdd, nvidia goforce 6150 based graphics, very attractive design and a KEWL price tag of 54k.

Or try compaq 3029 with same config but 512 ram and 80gb hdd. Price is 42k. You can easily upgrade to 1gb ram for 3k.
Now, beat it!

Guys, if anybody is looking for a sub 50k laptop, here's a great one from Compaq. The model is 3029. It comes with Amd Turion64, 512mb ram, 80gb Hdd, goforce 6150 graphics, wifi, blutooth and a glossy black design. The price is just 42k. And upgrade ram to 1gb for 3k and it'll beat anything on that price range. Ain't it?

Saw anything better? Keep us updated!

Try Acer Laptops. We have been using it for more than a year and these laptops are performing at par with Compaq. We have been with Compaq till a year back and have shifted to Acer laptops for official use.

Guys ,

There is a problem. Just got the new dv6114tx from HP - the problem is it has an Express Card slot and not a PCMCIA card slot. I cant plug in my Relaince data card now . So what do I do ? I asked Reliance and they do not have data card in the Express card style.

Are there PCMCIA to USB adapters / cables that I can use ? What is the way out ?

Hey NC, there are USB adapters for PCMCIA cards.

Just curious, is the Reliance data card a part of the HP laptop deal? If yes, they are supposed to provide you with external Internet data card, not a PCMCIA card along with dv61xx HP laptops.

NC, sorry for the delay....

Though the USB to PCMCIA adapters are available, they are not so common. I am yet to find any online shop selling them. You can start looking at the following URLs to get some info.

I'll keep you posted thru' PMs if I find anything.
