I recently got a Toshiba satallite laptop for my dad, he needed something basic.
Spec: 256MB RAM, 1.7 Celeron ,40gb hardisk,DVD/CR-W,15inch screen,XP Home,ultra slim and light.
Price: Here is the suprise..... $400! But with tax and all it comes up to around 19,000Rs... was an insane sale, got sold out in no time!
Its almost the same as Rtech laptop spec but at less than half the price.

Just one suggestion if your buying a laptop now get the new Intel Centrino DUO! It boost battery life to almost double. Laptops in the US have just started offering it. I dont think you will get it within your budget in india coz it might not be available there yet but i strongly suggest you get the Centrino DUO or atleast a Centrino. I guess its best if you can hv some1 get it from you for the US, laptops r alot cheaper here considering the deals you can find online.

I'm partial to the Thinkpad too .. just like the ad, I've seen 2 thinkpads drop to the floor (tiled) from office desks. No effect !
I've been using a T41 (Centrino/512MB) for almost 2 years now .. very reliable and sturdy.

acer ferrari 4002 has the same processor but the 4005 has Turion ML-37 and 4006 has turion Ml-41.

celeron M is based on Pentium M architecture and an much much better investment.Even a celeron M wont be a bad investment. Its much cheaper than pentium M's and the only thing you loose is Speedstep technology and 1mb of l2 cache memory. Dont be fooled by others who say on the face that celeron is a bad cpu because they heard from somewhere.

it's still and IBM design. Lenovo will take a few years to mess it up if they dare.

If my T41p ever dies I will consider Apple but that is about it. I am a computer idiot and have not been able to wreck the my laptop yet. Though i pray I wont ever be able to do that.

LOL... I remember when I told my manager who had a brand new centrino ... "You know why your laptop is so slow? Compare your Laptop's Mhz to mine.... He was running at 800Mhz (speedstep 1.6Ghz)... and I was at 1.9Ghz (Celeron - very old) " ...... That was depressing for him!...
But the point is his laptop was really half as fast as mine!... b'coz I had no antivirus as usual.

my friend is a first time user. I asked him to get a celeron M and told him its based on pentium M and that intel is just cheating money out of consumers in the name of centrino. but the name celeron has been valued so low that nobody really wants to even touchit.

IBM laptops are really good because they are supposed to be targetted at corporrate customers. HP NX business line is equally good also comes with that blue button everybody likes on ibm

Close your eyes and get the Thinkpad. I use a R52. Yes, a bit heavier compared to my Dell Inspiron. But nevertheless, its a great piece.

Once Thinkpad, always Thinkpad

Why dont you check out the Apple iBook G4? It costs around 53k. What I like about it is its size. Very compact and light. With OSx running performance shouldnt be a problem too.

It sells for 999$ in the US. If you are not heavily into multimedia, gaming and stuff then the iBook should suffice.

Not to mention the drool factor
