Yeah i tried the usb convertor thingy on a new gen laptop. It does'nt work with the applications i am working with.

What would be the approx prices of these old laptops.

The apps i/we are working with

1. Dynojet Pwr commander old gen (only serial port direct)
2.Dynojet Pwr commander 03 onwards with usb support. (only usb)
3.Haltech ign sys
4.Accel Stand alone engine management sys.(only runs on 98se)

currently we are using a pc to tune these. But laptop would suit are application better.

looks like ur looking to run DOS based solutions , would suggest that u use a mimimum configuration of a celeron or a PIII above 500 MHZ , with windows 98 SE as ur OS , this is the oldest OS that can support USB Port properly ... Pls makes sure that u have excel handy on it ..

For these programming softwares that ur talking about it would be best for the laptop to have both the serial and the USB port .. Else u might run into trouble with port assignment and IRQ conflicts ...

(interesting , nice to see another ECU programmer on board )..

BTW ... cincla , what does ur nick stand for ??? ( .cin , .cla as file extensions and turbo could mean turbo C .. How wild off am i ?? )

No i am the type of ecu programmer u think i am. I just hook up these sys on cars/bike tune it and get it running. Why should i BS about what i can't do. I know of some in bangalore who do the whole change of ecu chips and stuff.

And my nick name has got nothing to do with the extension / programing language.
My name comes from a name of a ltalian company in Brugherio. My dad used to supply some machinery parts to them. They make textile machinery.

My very serious and frank suggestion.

yonah is beaten in benchmarks by all other cpu;s. Its the testing platform for napa. Wait till intel and amd bring in their real dual core mobile cpus in september.

Dual core cpu until then is not worth. current cpu to buy will be amd turion.

Without intel processors also you can use most of MS software like MS office for Mac etc. These are software made for Apple by MS
