Small correction here - its actually a IPS LCD screen.

Good insights on this! These are things that someone wouldn't realise just by seeing the device.

True -- there are better, faster, more open, cheaper, more functional and more ergonomic competitors out there. But the fact of it is, despite all their hype, none of them have been launched yet!
Props to Apple for that.

Samurai, check out the Pixel Qi screen. I think its what you'd want. A lot of upcomming tablets will feature this, including the promising looking "notionink adam" out of Hyderabad.

So true, but don't worry - iPhone OS 4 fixes.... one of those things. Kinda.

Was trying to get it from US from friends, but was unlucky twice. Once the friend was out of cash and once the delivery was scheduled after my friend's flight to India.

So finally yesterday, in impulse, I bought 16gb from Delhi itself. I've been comic reader since long, and it's awesome reading them on this thing.

iPad is an ergonomic nightmare.

The iPod touch 2G is enough for me. :-)

Sahil, Ditto. I too picked up a 32GB wifi, I am so happy with the product that now even my phone is iphone 3GS. I wanted to pick iphone 4G but decided to wait till the glitches are fixed.

I just love my ipad, in fact I am already planning to sell it to some friend and pick a 64 wifi+3g on my next US trip next week.

Amazing device, 32GB is good enough space, HD apps are simply awesome.

For those who are not onto IEEE Spectrum, here is a summary of all display technologies.

http://spectrum.ieee.org/computing/h...f-the-future/0

The main item to note is that Kindle does not have colour display and uses the E-Ink technology. This allows minimum strain to eyes and you are able to read even in broad daylight (which may be difficult in an I-PAD).

Not sure if there any tablets released, which are based on the Pixel Qi based Display. Its supposed be next gen on display technology.

As regards to price I think currently prices bloated in India. Still worth buying abroad. I still am yet to see cheaper alternatives. Andriod based devices (Olive Pad) does not anywhere but prices are in the same range. Yet to wait and watch on the Dell Android Tablet, which will be hitting the market in India in another 2-3 months.

The price diff for the 3G version was some 6k INR when i converted, so advised wifee to go for it since she will require it while travelling. Simple 16 GB version.

Oh yeah iPad is wifee's, actually her first gadget purchase lol She hasn't even purchased a mobile phone or for that matter a watch for herself, prior to this!

Got 64GB 3G some weeks back. Enjoying GPRS before [getting the chance to buy] BSNL 3G connection.

Great to have a large screen for Maps and Mail app while on the go. Typing is as good as it's on Apple keyboard.

Also got a backup micro sim from another carrier in my wallet in case the current one goes down for some reason. :P

Essentially, it's just a larger iPod touch. You probably always wanted a larger/faster-to-use iPhone/iPod touch (without realizing? )

The iOS 4.2 for iPad is out. Though still in beta and exclusively for developers, it's intended to be released in nov.
I got the 4.2 right now on my iPad and the best thing about it is multitasking. I can chat, listen to music and browse Internet at the same time. The other features include organizing the apps in folders, print function, change of the hardware button to mute etc.

Bought a microsim cutter and sim adapter from ebay. Just did the 10 second surgery, its as simple as using a stapler! And now the iPad is running BSNL 3G card!

Its become truly mobile and i have a proper GPS screen for my car

Anyone in BLR wants to make some micro sim out of regular GSM, give a shout out
