Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I am planning to move from the Samsung stock ROM to a Custom ROM for my Galaxy Grand Duos I9082.

Can someone please help me with a Stable Custom ROM for Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 ?

Both whatsapp and BBM will run in background. The only difference being, whatsapp uses C2DM, so will be better in terms of battery life. In case of BBM, if you're talking about persistent notification, you can remove it in settings

Hello,

You can try xda-developers website. They will have a list of all the ROMS and instructions on how to install. The most famous ROM is by Cyanogenmod.

Regards.

Thanks mate !! I have been scouting XDA for a week now. Cyanogenmod 10.1 is the one which is doing rounds. But it has some drawbacks like Dual SIM failure amongst one. If there are no other better stable ROMs' other than Cyanogenmod, then I would install Cyanogenmod.

Haahaahaa
That's quite a coincidence !! I have a White phone, don't tell me your Grand is white too !!!
The 4.2.2 is not available in India, officially.
Google has many links pointing to Unofficial 4.2.2, which we can do. But again, that would be voiding the warranty.

Since I am keen on getting rid of Samsung apps, so not doing the 4.2.2. Rather I am going in for Custom ROM, which would make the phone 'hopefully' faster and sleeker with some new themes and apps.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

on a Samsung S7562 Android 4.1x,

Can I put in a password before mobile data is activated ?
This is to prevent accessing the internet, when the phone is with someone else, other than actual user/owner

OMG ! I can't believe this. I am typing this from my Galaxy Grand Duos running on [b]Samsung Official Android 4.2.2 OS [\B]!!

Last night, I connected the phone to my laptop via Samsung Kies to take a back up of the phone, before moving to Custom ROM. Kies prompted me to update Firmware and I did so. When the phone rebooted, things looked slightly different. So I went to the about device section and found this !!

Quick review shows:
-Smoother and faster operations.
-New font
-Revamped Gallery
-Revamped Video Player
-Revamped and Customisable Notification Bar and Settings screen.

More new or revamped things ma6 be present. I am exploring each section today, to see how diferent are things now.

So all Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos owners, time to rejoice with something new !

Week 1 with Android 4.3 on my S4:
1. It's fast, and how! +1
2. Display looks even better! +1
3. Zero lag! +1
4. Screen fliker bug remains! -1
5. Wifi connectivity issue! Though it gets sorted when you turn-off auto network switch, but still! -1
6. Reading mode!? What was Samsung thinking? It makes the screen so dull you can doze off! -1

Overall the 4.3 update is a mixed bag, not too great, not to bad! I suggest S4 users upgrade to this version as the phone feels superfast!

Amazing lock screen concept. Android only of course. It's going to be an invite only launch, so sign up for an invite on their website - https://www.coverscreen.com/

The cyanogen version of android 4.3 for galaxy note ( and all other Samsung phones ) has fixed the flicker bug one month back. It's a pity that Samsung's own firmware is not able to do that!

And there are no WiFi connectivity issues as well.

Here's what you can do. If you have anyone's email who has got is working, just enter that email on the 1st screen. The BBM app will let you go through the next screen where you can configure your own BBM account.
The email address used on 1st screen will not be linked to this phone.

Regd. for bbm messanger last evening. Got the email today morning.

Honestly, this bbm thingy looks too complex after using whatsapp and the like.

Btw... Any Note 3 users on the forum? Would like to have your thoughts on the device. Planning to pick one around Diwali.
