Tasker for Android: The tool to make your Android 'smartphone' REALLY smart!

The aim of starting this new thread really is to have a forum for members to:

1. Share new ideas on using Tasker as an automation tool for Android

2. Get help from fellow members for traoubleshooting - basically, getting help in setting up profiles/tasks/projects.

So, for the benefits of those who are not familiar with Tasker:

What is tasker?

Tasker [http://tasker.dinglisch.net/] is an Android automation app. In fact, I would say calling it an 'app' does not justice to it's endless possibilities. rather, it is a wonderful toolkit that lets you write your own scripts which will perform 'tasks' based on triggers such as an 'event', a 'state' time of the day, etc. etc.

The tool is so powerful that the our ignorance or (lack of) creativity are more likely the limitations!

Here are resources to read up to explore more:
http://www.pocketables.com/tag/tasker
http://tasker.wikidot.com
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/tasker

Apart from that, there is a vibrant Tasker community on G+ and youtube videos from xda-developers and others.

Why a separate thread when we have an android phone thread?

Well, this is such an involved subject in itself that i think it would be better to have a separate thread. Besides, it is somewhat of a 'special interest group'

So with that said,

Let the Games begin!!!

Perfect timing!

I was looking for a project to do this weekend

For those who are in this dilemma I don't know much about "scripting" I don't know how to begin learning this, but this looks interesting..

It's 180 bucks or so.

I am sure- our bhp friends can help with some interesting scripts

Cheers,

Ace.

Well, thank you, Driverace! Have fun with your project and let us have an update!

I look forward to sharing Tasker related triumphs as well as trials and tribulations with enthusiastic fellow members such as yourself!

To start with, here are some of the profiles I have had fun setting up:

1. Toggling mobile data and wifi based on location. I finally set it up after troubleshooting for a couple of days. Need to observe whether it works completely as expected or not.

2. Since I had initial trouble regarding 1 above, I set up a task to toggle wifi and 3G, with a shortcut to the task on my home screen.

3. Setting up widget on my home screen to display battery level in percentage (updated every 3 minutes or so).

4. When headset is plugged in, to pull up a menu of the music/internet radio apps.

5. Vibrate on when in my pocket (using proximity sensor+phone ringing contexts). This one doesn't seem to be working always though - maybe because the proximity sensor doesn't detect sometimes because of the placement of the phone some times.

6. Notification volume down during night.

7. Screen brightness very low and mobile data off when battery level goes below 15%.

8. Mute when kept face down - for use in meetings.

You can modify this to :

- When Battery is less than 30% put a notifier every 2-4 minutes for a charging reminder
- Disable data when battery is less than say 15%
- Automate data toggling built on top of battery power status. In other words, toggle data on only when battery is > 30 % !

Quite many possibilities

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Are any of you facing payment rejects from Google app store / Google wallet ?

Earlier my ICICI Cr card used to go through. But since recently google is rejecting it saying "Your card has been declined. Please update this card"

Checked with ICICI , they say they cannot detect any problem from their side, the card is valid.
All the data entered on the Payment screen against the card in Google wallet is 100% correct.

Even bhp maniac has quoted the same problem in a few posts before yours! Looks like it's an app store problem!

I too faced this, and another strange observation.

Fails on Chrome, but the same transaction went fine on Firefox.

Is there any app which lets me monitor the outgoing call minutes and the number of smses sent? I should be able to set the rules for the calls. For example, cug is free for my plan. So, I should be able to exclude the call minutes for a particular number

Issue resolved automatically after a day, seems like some payment gateway glitches with playstore

It was indeed the worst case scenario they'd mentioned. Got a message today, the phone has been despatched. Expecting the delivery on monday/tuesday.

Snap deal did a great job of a Lumia 720 I ordered last Thursday, and it was delivered to my office on Tuesday morning. Croma Retail.com bettered that over a Blackberry 9790 I ordered on Tuesday which got delivered this morning.

This I think will not increase your battery life. Because you are only toggling sync. Your data is always ON. In my opinion, you should toggle data every one hour to get the best battery life.
Let the sync be ON all the time.
