Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

My OnePlus 5 finally received the OTA Oreo update just now. 1.5 GB file but downloaded on Airtel 4G (VoLTE, though screenshot shows WiFi icon, I switched it off shortly after) in 5 minutes flat. Update took 5 minutes more.

Too early to figure out Oreo benefits or drawbacks but overall impressed with the OP upgrade experience.

I was using the beta on my OP5 and got a ~65 MB update for the final version today.

Having used high end phones from other manufacturers including Samsung, Google (Pixel/Nexus) and Apple I am really impressed how OnePlus have got their act together and smoothened out their firmware upgrade/update rollouts. Really well done for a relatively new company. For me the main benefit of Oreo has been improvement in battery consumption.

My 2 year old OP2 running Marshmallow still works very well. OP phones have their wrinkles for e.g. in the camera department, but overall the phones are real VFM handsets.

Hello binand,

Thanks for all your inputs. The above link mentions that it is a Ver 1.2 (rooted). Mine was not (-NOM-).
Apparently, I had no choice but to get the phone a factory at the service center. However, before opting for this I thought doing something that was called a "Brute force attack" to decode the password.
I started typing all possible pin combinations starting from 0000>0001>....>9999. After every 5 attempts, wait for 30 seconds & restart. I did tried the common & fancy combinations first Ex; 1111, 0011, 1100 & so on. I had a comparatively free day at office..
Eventually & fortunately for me the phone unlocked itself at 1404

Thanks Again.

Regards,
Saurabh

Yes, it came and then vanished. Guess the initial lot was all spoken for.

In any case the delivery was 20 Jan+, we may be away from 2 February till the 12th. So I decided to delay my purchase. I will get it on my return. Apparently it seems to be an 'el cheapo' S8!

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Can somebody suggest a midrange phone with a very good selfie camera, in the 10-20K budget range? I need to replace my wife's aging MI 4i.

I'd call it the S8 value edition ☺️

I think this is the phone I might buy if I were in market for a new phone today. Either this, or the absolutely brilliant LG V30+ (but it's a bit expensive at 45k)

This looks promising:

This one is underrated (f1.7 and f1.9 aperture for rear/front cams):

Priced at Rs.32,990. It might have killed the OP5T too.

For those looking for a phone in 30K range, Huawei Honor 10 View with its 6 GB RAM and 128 GB space seems like amazing value.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Hi All,
I currently use a Galaxy Note 8 as my daily driver. I am looking for a compact phone for listening to music during my morning jogging.
Note is 8 is too huge, hence looking for something compact within Rs 8K.
Please suggest.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

Return of the Lenovo Tab 4 8 plus!

Was about to buy a considerably cheaper Tab 4 from Flipkart when I spotted the plus back on sale at Amazon. This is for my wife, and she does not want to begin the tasks of transfering stuff from her current tab until after the weekend. Could not resist turning it on, skipping the setup, and connecting it to our wifi, though. The display is a lot nicer than the Asus tabs we bought back in 2014 (I think).

The eight inches seems like a lot of glass... and I think we should cover it. How to buy a screen guard? The only difference I can see, on Amazon, is price. How to choose? Any recommendations?

New in the house with this tab: Android Nougat and, USB C! Hadn't realised it has that. Was rather resisting, due to a good stock of older USB cables!

Being a Note8 user myself i agree that the note8 is big, are you sure tgat you want a second phone just for music? Why not the following options?
1. a smart watch/ band with memory for songs and pair it up with a wireless headset. I have a Note8 and a Gear S3. Gear S3 has songs and it can independently play them. This is in Addition to all fitness things it can do.
2. A Headset where you can put a memory card with songs.

Well, I originally planned to purchase a Sony Walkman 4GB at 3.7 K. But the main drawback is that it doesn't support Gaana or other streaming services. So I thought of purchasing Redmi 5A or 10or E, just for Gaana app. I will have a standby phone too in the process.

Let me know your opinion.

Any idea when it is getting launched? The flipkart page does not give a clue.

No idea about the exact launch date but it should not be taking too long in my opinion.

It still has a 5.65 inch screen though, but these days you have drastically reduced bezel sizes.
