Ah! thanks. Before posting this, I thought of all phones except Nokia 8
when I read "S5 and N8" in the same line, my mind was blocked I guess.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

I have a Moto G4+ running Android 7.0. My battery has been draining fast recently and I need to charge my phone twice a day .

Are there any battery apps that can tell me which apps are draining the battery ? The inbuilt battery app is almost useless. I checked some of the apps but they need the phone to be rooted to display app specific info. I don't want to root my phone.

I use Gsam Battery Monitor.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...m.gsamlabs.bbm

Doesn't need root, but needs some permissions that you need to provide via adb/developer mode. The app hand-holds you through the process.

Heard of it via xda-developers.com.

App screenshot attached.

I use GSAM and Accubattery and believe the latter to be a better app for the purpose. It also helps extend battery life by encouraging charging between a 40-80% SOC band.

Re: Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods

My Nexus 5 has had a couple of unexpected shutdown and restarts or a blank screen This week. Looks like it's on its way out. I've loved it but may need a replacement.
I'm looking for a 5 inches display phone that is stock Android and a good processor. I hate my Lenovo k3 note as it is the most laggy phone I have ever seen.
Camera and display are NOT a priority. Battery life should be decent.
Any suggestions.

I am not sure what is your budget but you can find refurbished Pixel 1 phones listed on ebay for 28-29k with 6 months manufacturer warranty.
This will give best stock android experience, best camera, and good battery life.
In my opinion, manufacturer refurbished phones with 6 months manufacturer warranty is worth taking calculated risk.

Nokia 8. Pure stock android with 8.0 already running on it. 37K without offers. But there should be offers coming soon once the newness dies down.

If that's out of budget, then Redmi Mi A1. Has a few bugs from what I'm reading but again bone stock android.

Then there is the Moto X4 but for what it offers the price point of 21K is steep vs the Moto G5S+ which is on par with hardware just feels cheaper.

How's the battery backup of G6. I don;t use for games or watching videos. But extensive calls, Outlook Email and Whatsaspp. In your opinion, should it last a day?

Anyone here bought the Moto X4? Was planning to buy a Moto device for some time, was interested in the G5, G5s plus. But shockingly Moto omits the compass sensor in these phones. Finally Moto X4 has the compass sensor and it suits my requirements. I usually go by Geekyranjit's review. But this time he has not posted his usual pros and cons review of this phone.
Can anyone provide any feedback?

Usually lasts a day easily with very heavy usage of outlook, whatsapp, FB, calls and BT on with smart watch.

On some days I am out of juice before end of day when I use it with navigation and all.

If you are thinking of buying one, my suggestion would be to look at Nokia 8. You lose the 2:1 screen and IP68 protection but hardware and software is much better on the Nokia 8. It's more current gen with the 835 chipset over the older 821 in the G6.

I would have probably got the Nokia 8 myself if I was in the market today. Battery life is even better and it's already running Oreo.

Battery backup depends on combination of processor type, screen size & battery size - 821 processor (old), 5.7 inch screen (largish) & 3300 mAH battery (good size) in case of LG G6. Even for your app usage, it depends on how long you spend checking emails, calling and whatsapping on your phone. My wife's phone app usage is the same as yours but she still needs to charge the phone twice a day - because she uses the phone as a computer and a communication device.

If you want the best battery backup, you need to choose a phone with latest processor (835), small screen (5 inches or 5.5 inches max) and largish battery (3000 to 5000 mAH).

Meanwhile, a few interesting upcoming Android launches:

BLACKBERRY MOTION

Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods-blackberry.jpg

Looks very desirable. It is available imported for Rs. 38,000 on eBay India.
https://www.ebay.in/itm/142554766381

Might be available cheaper when it is officially launched in India

NOKIA 9 will be out soon. This is not an actual image but a rendering based on Nokia 9 cases/covers that have suddenly appeared on amazon.com (meaning launch is close)

Android Thread: Phones / Apps / Mods-nokia-9.jpg

What Nokia 9 gets (as rumored) over Nokia 8 :

1) 18:9 aspect ratio (2:1 screen as you call it)
2) 5.5 inch super AMOLED display (Nokia 8 gets 5.3 inch IPS)
3) 6 or 8 GB RAM (4 GB for Nokia 8)
4) up to 128 GB storage (64 GB for Nokia 8)
5) IP68 water proofing. (just splash proof for Nokia 8)

No idea about price and no wireless charging though.

Built to last design
Oh, not the one before? Somebody teach Blackberry about hyphens!

But the rest sounds good "soft-grip" (see, they have heard of hyphens!) back sounds so much more sensible than all this slippery glassy stuff that seems designed to have people buying new phones regularly. What looks good in the shop is not necessarily going to look good in the hand, especially when it has slipped out of it.

My Moto X Play (an old phone now!) scores reasonably well for grip.
