Yeah - looks to be a car that can sell like the Fiesta. not outstanding in any respect but yeah will do all willingly without complaints (like a wife i guess)

Damn - guys arent we getiing cars launched here that are BORING ?? we need some excitement here in this market.(a mistress perhaps ) ?

i know the market demands it but still...
maybe the Indian market has matured and these kinda launches are proof !

could you please get more details about it.

Also inorder to get loyality bonus does he has to exchange his current GM car with Aveo or he can buy Aveo as second car & get that bonus

Regards

sporting the 1.6L engine of the optra, i dont think its going to please any revvhappy fella out there , but assuming the car will be lighter than the optra, it will be interesting to see how it performs.

and lets see which price bracket GM places it in ... if not oughtright performance ... lets see if it has holds that value for money thing the oprta does

The Aveo has good looks but might come short in the FE stakes. It has neither a diesel to beat the Fiesta nor a high FE petrol engine to beat the NHC's i-dsi.

i dont think any car's FE can beat the honda city at the moment , because honda is using superior technology(i-DSI and Vtec) in india in contrast to the other companies.
toyota with its VVTi has no competing car in that segment
ford brings in ROCAM,DURATEC, but it doesn't seem like they will bring in their Zetec VCT(variable cam timing) used on the 98 intl. Escort and Ford Focus anytime soon
The only other company to use variable valve technology in india is hyundai on the Embera (VTVT they call it)
i-DSI ofcourse is comething unique to honda at the moment

to be fair...i dont think honda has much competition in terms of engine technology in india, which is why they can afford to sell their cars at premium.

Hi,

The letter acutally was sent by GM to tell their existing customers that their opel brand is no longer in production and Aveo is going to replace the opel..

And as for loyality bonus he can just go and buy Aveo with 50k discount without any exchange.

The Aveo and the Current 1.6 Optra use VGIS (Variable Geometry Intake System) which is good enough to beat the current competition.

I had a talk with my Chevrolet dealer.

Here is some info which he provided me.

Top Model - Pricing - 7.2L OTR

Equipment - Air Bags, ABS (Optional), Alloys and lots more equipment like Sunroof, etc is expected.

Car is expected to come by this thursday for display..

I thought the Aveo was a Corsa replacement aimed at Accent/Ikon/Petra segment. But looks like they are positioning it as a cheaper alternative to Fiesta/City

BTW, anyone read this Aveo article in Rediff?

http://in.rediff.com/money/2006/mar/11motoring.htm

M

Just read that GM is working on tweaking the Aveo hatch engine from 1400 cc to 1200 cc, so as to benefit from the new excise structure. Get this feeling we will have another under powered hatch like the Palio 1.2.

Any idea what the pricing for the hatch is??

Read more on the launch here: http://in.rediff.com/money/2006/mar/16ave.htm

The hatch with a 1.2 ltr engine - should come between 4-4.5 L OTR so that it doesnt eat into the sedan's sales . the lowest model of the sedan is priced at 5.5L ex showroom. hmm this is going to be a difficult job for GM - lets see how they do it. and to top it they have 2 bollywood stars promoting it instead of 1 for the Fiesta.

I disagree N_C
One of the biggest advantage GM currently has (due to delay in launch of Spark) over both Hyundai & Maruti is they don't have to worry about eating into market of their own product.
Hyundai had to worry about Santro, Maruti about Zen, WagonR.
GM has advantage here. They might aswell cut back in profit in intial period & get some market share.
Though the best we can do is guess.
