Facelifted Honda City- deliveries in December 2011

It’s no news that Honda Siel Cars is planning to launch a new version of its City this year. The images, features and details of the new car have been discussed in detail in one of our earlier posts. The news, however, is that the new car should be ready for deliveries in December. We called up one of the Honda dealerships and they informed us that a new variant of the City is due in December. While dealers have a fair idea of new variants and launches, they don’t know the exact dates. From whatever the dealer shared with us, it seems Honda is planning a late November, early December launch for the car.
Another important news is that the dealerships are offering a cash discount of upto 80 thousand rupees on the current version to clear stocks and make way for the new City. The discounts will accompany only the current stocks and the new City will sell for a higher price. The dealers are also suggesting a slightly higher price tag for the top end variant of the car than the current one.
The new City will be powered by the same 1.5-liter i-VTEC mill that currently propels it. The changes made to the car will be purely cosmetic with the mechanicals and underpinnings left untouched.

New Honda City coming late November, current version cheaper by 80K

Cheers!

That's much later than what dealers are mentioning here , Honda would have done well if they were to have opened the bookings atleast within the festive period.

From the exteriors upgrade its definitely not worth waiting for , the only problem is the interiors , if they change some of the items that everyone has a problem with then it becomes more 'considerable' in my opinion.

Re: Autocar India scoop: 2012 Honda City Facelift pics

This is actually not good news. The city by itself in todays times as a petrol powered car will not really sell to many more and if the price moves upwards the sales are bound to drop even further.

It would have been better to retain the current discounts over a longer term. Besides it does need to add some more features into the interiors to get back the focus on the car.

Re: Autocar India scoop: 2012 Honda City Facelift pics

the facelifted version cannot launch with an increased price tag, because it simply wont sell.
The only upmove for City is to launch the facelift with more essential C segment features at the same discounted price. This is the only way for them to get in customers who, at the moment, are simply blindly running behind the diesel.

Re: Autocar India scoop: 2012 Honda City Facelift pics

I think there might not be any major cost factor as we saw the price reduction in City few months ago and also in Jazz. Also considering the way the current versions of City are being sold out to clear the stock, I feel they are not going to increase the price. It might be just the dealers are trying to push their sales up and clear the stocks by making a statement of possible price hike.

Though the changes made are not very significant, the car overall looks very up market now. And nice new colour as well. Hopefully the higher tag of the 'high-end' V model will now come with Automatic Climate Control. And are the new alloy designs coming to India aswell? Though it looks different and nice, I prefer the current clean 5 spoke design better. And also hopefully better set of shoes would be part of the upgrade too. At least the V variant should be offered with 195 section tyres to tap the full potential of the brilliant i-vtec and the chassis IMHO.

Re: Autocar India scoop: 2012 Honda City Facelift pics

Well I seriously doubt how the new upgrade will help Honda without a diesel.

Those who wanted to buy the City have already taken the bite and bought the current version with the available discounts.

Will there be any buyers for the new version without discounts. I doubt?

I hope Honda reduces the ex-showroom price further to remain relevant.

Cheers

Re: Autocar India scoop: 2012 Honda City Facelift pics

If we consider Vento and Honda City, last 3 months' car sales figures have shown something - while not having a diesel engine has hurt Honda in the past, the City is still the best sedan in that segment, notwithstanding all other competition from diesel mills. What else would justify clocking sales above Vento (Petrol and Diesel combined) for the past three months? Once Honda dropped their prices, Vento sales were blown away! Currently, the Vento TDI stands close to 10 Lakhs ex-showroom in Bangalore, whereas City Exclusive stands at 9.31 Lakhs.

My conclusion: It is not Diesel, it is overpricing and giving less features that has hurt Honda City more. Majority of within-city commuters still prefer a linear power delivery of a Petrol engine rather than a Diesel.

Given the above, I feel that if the face-lift brings in some good changes, both interior and exterior, it will sell well, at least to begin with. That does not mean that the pre-facelift owners have lost anything, because they haven't. It is still the iVTEC that matters. City, even with it's low ground clearance, and worse ride that Vento or Linea T-Jet, has sold more lately with a price reduction.

Of course, the above logic does not hold good if the new City is again overpriced with low features. The pricing has be in the same region, maybe a nominal increase. Period.

Changes = "Eco" mode in the speedo, very minor changes to the grille, front head lamps and tail lights.

Optional sunroof in the V variant might be available, but there's a big question mark on that as well. Don't expect it, though.

Pre-facelift owners won't lose anything at all. If anything, their Citys will have better looking tail lights than the facelift.

No new alloys? No ACC? No CD Player (and I don't mean optional purchase)? :-(

I personally don't have any great fascination for sunroof. But they won't get anywhere with such minor changes. They better concentrate on having a good pricing/marketing strategy for 2012 Civic, if that can offset its poor looks!

Just in from Hormazd in the form of a tweet.
Quote:
  • Honda delays launch of face-lifted City till Jan 2012. Earlier plan was to launch this Nov but Thailand floods have disrupted production.
  • City face-lift now likely to be unveiled at Auto Expo but current model stocks may run out before then.
