Silencer coating is anti-rust coating which is not part of the under body anti-rust coating.
The following was done:

1) Injector cleaning - Rs. 304.50
2) Engine oil(3.5l) - Rs. 786.80
3) Carb cleaner - Rs. 97.72
4) Brake & clutch cleaner - Rs.68.46
5) Filter Assy- Engine oil - Rs. 76.40
6) Silencer anti-rust coating - Rs.550.00
7) Labour- Rs.930.00
8) Rear brake Shoes R or C- Rs.155.00
9) Front Bake cleaning - Rs.0.00
10) Vat on 1257.48@13.5% Rs. 169.76
11) Vat on 76.4@4% Rs. 3.06
12) Service Tax on 1635 Rs. 196.2
13) E.Cess and SHEC Rs. 5.00

He explained quite a few things namely what the brake and clutch cleaner does and the throttle body cleaning. Its just that I have forgotten half the things and also could not understand since there were so many technical names. Nevertheless I appreciate his patience of hearing everything out and answering almost all my questions. Lets see if he calls me on his own to tell me about the arrival of the part. That would be a perfect 10.

P.S: My car has done 8363 Kms.

EDIT:

Forgot to mention the following:

1) Dashboard noise check up
2) All doors adjust
3) Under body nut and bolt tight
4) Open clean and adjust brakes
5) Underbody inspection

At just 8363 Kms? Did you complain of any sort of misfiring?

Also, does the user manual suggest changing the below at 10k kms?

Quote:
2) Spark Plug
3) Brake fluid
4) Engine coolant
Glad that the service center didn't change them.

The car was and is in perfect shape except for the rattles. I have no clue about the mechanical parts. He had said something about the injectors which I cant recall.

THe user manual recommends changing the 3 items at 1.5 years. Not sure about the Kms( I think it was 30K). I think 10K is too less.

Dude! why only 3.5 litres of engine oil?! Yours is diesel right? It requires 5.3 on full drain and 5litres on replacement! If its indeed 3.5L then you will screw up your engine royally! Get it corrected ASAP!

You do know i20 does not have a carb right? Then why carb cleaner?

Injector cleaning not at all required that too at 8K kms!

Silencer anti-rust coating is a big hogwash. Couple of drives in muck filled rainy streets and all that coating is goner! You can check your silencer after next monsoon! You will understand what i meant

Silencer Will already have some protection from rust. So no need to protect it. Only when you find that your silencer has started to rust you can get this treatment done. From then on you can get it done every six months

Our Baleno at 6 years and i10 at 3.5 years has got rust inside the muffler. This is not on the outside, but the baffle plates inside is more prone to rust.

I guess they have used only the spray for cleaning the throttle body, which is why it is amounted less than 100.

Any rust prevention treatment should be done before the rust sets in and not after. However I cannot comment on how useful silencer coating is.

True. But this coating is more of a visual gimmick which does not last. Least in the cases which I have seen . It provides some protection maybe. But what I heard from one of the reputed painters is its mainly molten lead and silver paint. Because of which the surface shines after treatment and disappears fast.

If the same treatment is done when some rust spots appear then the coating can cling on to the tiny rust holes and provide actual protection.

Re: Maintaining a Hyundai or Maruti becomes more expensive. Labour rates increased AG

Got my i10 back from the 30k service yesterday. For reference, I'm putting down the costs split.

30k service, spares
Gearoil x 2.5L = 540
Engine oil x 3.1L = 670
Coolant x 2L = 468
Fuel filter = 332
Air filter = 195
Oil filter = 72
Oil plug gasket = 32
Spark plug x 4 = 210
Caliper guide rod grease = 145
Weight for wheel balance x 8 = 68
Total with VAT ~ 3100/-

30k service, labor
Periodic maintenance = 760
Wheel balancing x 4 = 260
Wheel alignment = 260
Rear brake O/H = 350
Front brake O/H = 295
Injector cleaning = 500*
Total with service charge tax and CESS on tax ~ 2700/-

Other complaints, spares
Steering yoke plug = 90
Stabilizer bar bush x 2 = 348
Bumper stopper rubber x 2 = 725
Strut insulator assy x 2 = 2578
Total with VAT ~ 4250/-

Other complaints, labor
Steering campaign = 450
Stabilizer bar bush replacement = 450
Labor charges (might be for bumper stopper and muffler re-positioning) = 900
Insulator replacement = 1000
Heater coil padding = 300
Total with service charge tax and CESS on tax ~ 3500/-

Accident repair
Front right fender denting and painting = 2200/-

Total dent on my pocket ~ 15800/-

When I asked if the brake fluid was replaced, they told no it was topped up!
* -> I had specifically asked for no additional cleaning flushing etc, but they did the injector cleaning saying 'saar, it had problem'!

@thoma, this is daylight robbery. 15K+ for a 30K service for an I10? Is it a directive from the government to discourage people to avoid cars? How are these companies going this suicide route, don't they know that there are others in the fray waiting to grab the opportunity to snatch the market share of the leader?

God save Maruti. Hyundai was always expensive on maintenance so its not that shocking for them to keep increasing prices.

Please note that the they charge approx INR 8k for a usual 30k km service. Since I denied many flushing and cleaning, I could get the 30k km service work done for INR 5800/-.

The rest is for steering and muffler rattling and dent painting which costed INR 10000/-. Out of which, many cars, at 30k kms or even before, are prone to have issues with steering, which is bad. It is also bad that the strut insulator went bad this early, which alone costs INR 4000/- including labor.

Re: Maintaining a Hyundai or Maruti becomes more expensive. Labour rates increased AG

Thanks for the information Thoma. Seems like there is an exorbitant increase in service charges at Maruti and Hyundai. Never paid such exorbitant charges when I had a maruti. Will keep an eye on the charges by checking with friends who have Maruti and Hyundai

Re: Maintaining a Hyundai or Maruti becomes more expensive. Labour rates increased AG

I don't know how Hyundai is calculating service intervals for their petrol cars. Our i10 is requested for the next service, after 10k kms or 6 months whichever is earlier. Go to any other manufacturer's showroom and the first thing they ask is your usage pattern and they recommend a diesel only if the use is over a 1,000 kms per month.

Does Hyundai really expect people to do 10,000 kms in 6 months on a petrol car?

Well, even i own an i10 1.2 but in the manual , it suggests that the service interval is 5000 kms or 6 months whichever is earlier. Can anybody please give me a concrete information on what is the proper interval. 5k or 10k kms ?
