Re: Volkswagen Jetta TSI (petrol) spotted. Could be a 1.4L TSI?

Interesting car for the VW group, I am not sure how they plan to price it, this car certainly seems promising on paper on the mileage front, but majority of the mass market perceives [IMO] cubic capacity to be of some sort categorization, that said - this could also provide them an opportunity to price it over Vento but less than Laura.

I am happy to see manufacturers still have not given up hope on Petrol engines. I wish they get this in the Polo - that should be fun - a turbo charged petrol hatch. Now i am dreaming.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta TSI (petrol) spotted. Could be a 1.4L TSI?

Here are observations-
  • No AT launched because the VW 7 Speed box is a well known devil in our country.
  • Still no ACC.
  • No Bluetooth
  • No Highline Petrol hence no Touchscreen ICE
  • No Leather
  • No Xenons,
  • No Sunroof
Brilliant car that lacks some essential segment standard features.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta TSI (petrol) spotted. Could be a 1.4L TSI?

Was reading a review of jetta 1.4tsi. There you have the same engine churning out 160ps! Also we can see it having a proper dual climate ACC and the 7 speed dsg. VW unimpressive there for launching it under specced.

Its not the same engine. The 160 PS engine is a twin-charged (turbo and super charged) engine, while this is only turbo charged. I guess VW didn't get it here primarily because of cost as well as the fuel quality we get here.

Volkswagen Jetta TSI (petrol) launched!

Quote from Autocar-India:
Quote:
The petrol Jetta comes in two variants, the base Trendline, which is priced at Rs 13.60 lakh, and the Comfortline that costs Rs 15.07 lakh, (All prices ex-showroom, Delhi)
Links to articles can be found here:

The last article talks about presence of ACC; but I would take that with a pinch of salt.

Official statement on the Jetta 1.4 TSI

Volkswagen launches the compact, efficient and powerful 1.4 TSI engine in the Jetta for the Indian market

Start of Sales from July 1, 2012 at all Volkswagen showrooms

Mumbai, June 21, 2012: Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker announced the launch of the compact, efficient and powerful 1.4 L Jetta TSI today. With this launch the Jetta now becomes even more attractive for the customers providing a choice of both efficient diesel and petrol engines.

Furthermore, Volkswagen has ensured that this carline is an absolute value for money for every petrol customer with its Trendline priced at Rs. 13.60 lakhs, ex showroom New Delhi and Comfortline at Rs. 15.07 lakhs. ex showroom, New Delhi.

Commenting on the launch of the Jetta TSI, Mr. Neeraj Garg, Member of Board and Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd said “In the current market scenario, fuel efficiency has become extremely crucial for every customer looking at purchasing a new car. Customers looking at buying a petrol vehicle are either postponing their buying decision or purchasing a diesel car. Under these circumstances we strongly feel the need to provide the customer with a choice to opt for a value for money petrol car. The Jetta TSI is the perfect answer; a powerful car with an extremely efficient engine consuming less fuel.”

TSI is a pioneering technology of petrol engines by Volkswagen. TSI engines are compact, high powered and use less fuel thereby successfully implementing the downsizing concept. The Volkswagen TSI engines are designed to deliver maximum torque from engine speeds as low as 1500 rpm. That is good for both driving pleasure and fuel economy. This is achieved by combining Direct Petrol injection and intake of high compress air with the use of turbocharger thereby giving high fuel efficiency.

The Vehicle Outline:

The Jetta TSI is equipped with 1.4Litre, 4 cylinder TSI engine with a maximum power output of 90 Kw @ 5000rpm and a maximum torque of 200 Nm @1500-4000 rpm with a 6 Speed Gear Box in manual transmission.

Exterior

The new generation Jetta comes with an entirely new design and is 90 mm longer than its previous generation thereby making it more comfortable for the passengers.

The interplay of its exterior dimensions generates a powerful ratio of proportions. In parallel, the all new Jetta “design DNA” sharpens its style. This has resulted in clear precise lines and muscular surfaces, which give the Jetta an image of timeless elegance and dynamic styling.

The Exterior is equipped with:

• “Navarra” alloy wheels 205/55 R 16 tyres
• Rear Fog lights
• Side turn signal lights integrated in exterior mirrors
• Dual exhaust pipes

Interior

The designers and engineers have also crafted the interior right down to the last detail; the quality and perfection in details decisively go beyond boundaries. The extended wheelbase of the new Jetta has enabled a rear seating layout that is significantly more comfortable.

The very wide rear window offers excellent visibility and simultaneously emphasizes its dynamic lines. Its interplay with the C-pillars, as striking as they are elegant, and the clearly sculpted shoulder section, produces a design that is extremely dominant, generating a strong and powerful presence.

The interior is equipped with:
• Leatherette seat upholstery
• Leather package for steering wheel, gear shift knob, hand brake grip
• Front center armrest with storage box
• Storage compartments on headliner
• Rear AC vents for comfort
• Lockable and illuminated glove compartment
• Multi-function display “Plus”

Comfort and Convenience

On comfort the car has a number of unique, thoughtful touches. It is equipped with:

• RCD 300 Plus music system with CD player
• Aux-in & 8 speakers
• Park distance with acoustic warning
• Climatic air conditioner
• Front seat with height adjustment for better visibility

Safety and Security

Advanced occupant safety is one of the key features of the all-new Jetta which comes equipped with:
• Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)
• 6 airbags
• Front seat belt with height adjustment and seat-belt tensioner
• Central locking with 2 remote control folding keys
• 3-point belt for center rear seat
• Electronic engine immobilizer
• Engine and transmission guard
• Hill hold control

The Jetta TSI will be offered in 6 different colours:
• Candy white
• Reflex silver
• Toffee braun
• Deep black pearl
• Platinum grey
• Moon Rock Silver

Well not sure what to make of the pricing. The trendline misses out on quite a few features but the pricing looks good. cannot say the same for the Comfortline. 15L ex-showroom means it will come to 16+L OTR which is slightly pricier for a petrol sedan in the current market dynamics.

Having said that this is a good trend to bring out lesser capacity and more fuel efficient engines, given the dual fuel pricing fiasco in our country.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta TSI (petrol) spotted. Could be a 1.4L TSI?

Having done a good thing by going for a smaller more efficient engine in the Jetta (most people using these cars in India will never ever need 200 bhp on tap and a 0-100 time of 7 seconds!), I personally think VW missed a good opportunity on the pricing front. I think they would have done great by making sure the on road price of the 1.4 TSI is never above 15 lakhs in most states (except Karnataka probably!). It may also be the price of the Laura that is backfiring on VW because of their necessity to keep VW brand premium of Skoda.

Re: Volkswagen Jetta TSI (petrol) spotted. Could be a 1.4L TSI?

This is excessive for the 1.4 120 BHP version, there was speculation it would be priced lower than the Laura 1.8 TSI.

Why would someone spend 15 lakhs on the anemic 1.4 TSI when they can spend a couple lakhs more and go for the 140 BHP 2.0 TDI.

I don't know the numbers Jetta is currently doing but with slackening demand I can't see them holding these high prices and doing any significant volume.

I think its again an over-optimistic pricing. Just about 1.55L (ex-showroom) less than the 2L diesel. And the diesel itself is overpriced. 15L OTR is what would have been a good price for the CL. Dont think anyone would want to buy the petrol CL over the diesel CL.

While the engine on offer is fantastic, the pricing is not. The lack of features also doesn't help. VW could sell more volumes if they launched this engine in the Vento and Polo. People buying cars in these segments are more conscious of fuel efficiency. The Jetta has always done well with the diesel engine. I don't really see the petrol Jetta doing too well when you have a 1.8 TSI Laura available for almost the same price. At this price point, a customer will give priority to performance than fuel efficiency.

This makes the Linea T-Jet a serious bargain. Wish they could have priced the car 2 lacs cheaper.
