I always wanted to ask this - Why is Indica + Vista clubbed in B1 segment and not B2. Is it because we don't know the numbers separately?

And, is there no way of finding out the numbers separately?

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

Thanks Jalsa 777 for the facts and figures. The January sales appear to have unveiled another bag of surprises.
The Tata cars are on cloud nine with the petrol prices moving higher and higher! The Nano is not diesel powered, but its sales are also nearly 7800 units. Guess their " bring your old two wheeler get Rs 20 K off on a Nano" campaign is paying off. Only time will tell.
Another company that's making nearly all diesel drinking engines is Mahindra. They are also doing quite well.
The sales graph shows that MSIL is really on a bumpy road. The strikes and lockouts have had their toll. MSIL's dependence on petrol power and its waiting lists for the Swift and DZire have also been deterring buyers. Despite all this the Swift (mostly diesels, I believe) has scaled a new sale record pipping their homegrown Wagon R to be the no 2 best seller after Alto. The Alto has set a new record of more than 32,000 units sold. At the end of the day, it will end up as the best selling Maruti ever. The A Star has had a very good January and its perhaps the best ever digits for this car since a long time.
The list of losers is not that worrying as only the DZire appears to have lost significantly sales wise (more than 500 units), due to their impending model change.
In contrast, the gainers list has a number of cars that have gained significantly by as much as three or even four times. It remains to be seen whether these will continue to be sought after.
in the Top 20 its sad to see a Hyundai only at #5 represented by the i10. Their new Fluidic Verna has taken off and they need not worry as the Eon and i 20 too are doing well. The Indica/Vista and Indigo/Manza appear in higher positions. The Nano features @ # 9 in the list of 20- a first ever for the tiny car. But only hope that is sustained.
The Scorpio is out of the Top 20. But one fact in the Mahindra sales chart is the fact that the XUV has pipped the Xylo. The Verito is doing well - under French control it was selling < 500 units and now!! Indian control is always better!
The HM- Mitsubishi sales are too low. The Ambassador sales figures are quite alarming.
The manufacturer's country of origin and their % ages of the sales pie is a new addition and illustrates that we are driven by Japanese technology. The Indian component is proudly contributed by Tata and Mahindra as majors here.Only can dread the entry of Chinese players via the GM and other lucrative and "silky" routes soon.

How can i10 and Brio be in B2 segment, are they competing with the other cars in the segment? while Indica and Beat be in B1 segment? In B2, all the other vehicles are fine except these two. Can anyone explain how these 2 cars are featured along with others?

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

Good Show for the nano this time round. Its interesting how Tata's always seem to improve the "v2" version of their cars, wonder what prevents them from the trying the first time.

Also the Corolla altis seems to be one of the most underated cars around but seems to be doing really well in this segment.

One wonders how long before Nissan gets really popular in the taxi segment with its caaar.

Yes, 2174 is the Jan 2011 sales. Jan 2012 sales is 2101. I don't see the 2150 figure anywhere.

Gr888 to see Fiat (Punto) clocking some good numbers...!

Honda again has to wait for their revival via Brio n the NewCity, but all in all has already startsd feeling the heat...!

Slightly surprised to see the XUV 500z numbers - just under 3k mark.

Fiesta as well ready for the tussle as they doubles their figures..!

Slightly dissappointed to see Vento figures but then surprised as well to see Rapid straight away into 4 digits sales figures. But then all In al VW should be happy as they dont mind wr it goes.

Good to see Pulse doing some OK figures, but then Renualt has to pull their sox up for their good looking sedan...Fluence!!!! (still a long way to go in creating an 'inFLUENCE' in Indian market.

All said, but really have no words to say for MSILz performance...Gr888 going...keep going..!

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

^^^

On second thoughts, the Jan-2011 figures (2174) probably includes the Palio as well. The 2150 figure could be Punto+Linea sales in Jan-2011.

Seeing increase in Punto sales, first reason that comes to mind is the proposed rise in taxes on diesel cars by government(from march ?). This is making many in the looong wait list of swift to shift to other readily available options. We should expect similar numbers from Punto in Feb too (can be more too) since march is when the tax may be implemented.

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

we are being very optimistic about the jan numbers
as expected Tata is slowly inching up over Hyundai hope they maintain it
its really surprising that Eon which is far better than Alto is not doing decent numbers, it seems that we have this mentality of going for the tried and tested
kudos to Mahindra they have been doling out great numbers and it seems like they are listening to feedback and improving their products
in contrast Tata motors simply take forever to improve or change their products

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

January 2012 car sales rise 7.2 per cent!

"Car sales in India rose an annual 7.2 per cent in January, an industry body said, marking the third consecutive monthly rise as automakers bounce back from record falls in sales in late 2011.

Sales of trucks and buses, a key indicator of economic activity, rose 13.5 per cent in January from a year previous to 69,859 vehicles".

Re: January 2012 : Indian Car Sales

Just noticed an interesting trend. Vento had been doing 3000 plus number for around 4 months consistently. Rapid comes up and suddenly the number drop to 2400+ and then 2100+. The number of rapids sold also seems to corrospond to the drop in the number of Ventos sold.

So the question is will VW watch doing nothing when the skoda rapid kills off it's sibling VW vento(more snob value but Lesser VFM)

Am sure VW make money charging Skoda for each Rapid that they buildlike Skoda charges for each Jetta/Passat
