Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

What a example of miscommunication within a organisation!

1) Design team says - we will convert sedan to hatch
2) Marketing says - taxi guys and public loves boot space, dont touch it
3) Pricing team says - keep costs down
4) Some idiot comes up with this solution to satisfy 1-2-3!!

What a moronic way to spoil Mahindra's 1st foray into the Lucrative 365-24-7 Indian Hatchback mela!!

Its Maruti's way of saying 'dont teach daddy to...'!!

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

Vibe to be launched with diesel engine only!

Power will come from the same Renault K9K 1.5 litre diesel engine, which puts out a modest 68bhp. The weight difference between the Vibe and regular Verito is expected to be marginal and hence the car's performance is likely to be similar to the Verito's.

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

With such a robust engine and mechanicals in their armoury, they could have done a far better job than this.
It could have been an excellent alternative to the Indica, but with this boot design we can count the taxi owners out. They might still get few buyers depending on the price. Just the tax benefit brings the price to 5 Lakh Ex-Showroom for the d2 variant. No surprise if its priced even lower.

Edit: Verito Vibe D2 – Rs 5.63 lakhs, Verito Vibe D4 – 5.89 lakhs, Verito Vibe D6 – Rs 6.49 lakhs

Thank You M&M, may be next time

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

I am on a lookout for hatch these days, was waiting for M & M Vibe too. I keep a sedan and hatch as sedan can take more luggage, yet when it comes to oversized large items, hatch with folded rear seats can take anything. A combo of hatch and sedan in a family is thus ideal.

This car will serve no purpose (barring daily commute cabs without luggage). Its going to be a sedan minus the hatch's capacity to take oversized stuff (rightly pointed out earlier in this forum - carrying kids bicycle.

M & M are you listening?

Initial launch report of the Verito Vibe; Detailed reportage to follow

Link to News Section

Mahindra has just launched one its least priced car(discounting the Reva-i of course) in India in the form of the Verito Vibe. The launch of the Verito Vibe marks Mahindra's entry into the hatchback segment. The other two recent entries from Mahindra, the Quanto(compact SUV) and the Rexton(Premium UV) also broke new ground for the brand in terms of segmentation. Technically a hatchback, save for the weird boot release mechanism, the Verito Vibe is a diesel only car that's available in three variants, D2, D4 and D6. The D2 variant is priced at 5.63 lakhs, D4 at 5.89 lakhs and D6 at 6.49 lakhs, all prices reflecting ex-showroom Mumbai figures.

Now, why has Mahindra stuck to a diesel-only approach in a car that sits bang in the middle of the B+ segment hatchback space? It has, as there's no petrol engine with Mahindra that displaces under 1.2 Liters in displacement. To meet norms required for lower excise duty, Mahindra has stuck to the tried and tested 1.5 Liter Renault K9K turbo diesel engine, the same motor which powers the Verito sedan as well. Talking of the Verito Sedan, the Verito Vibe is essentially a different body style version of the sedan. This means that the underpinnings of the Verito Vibe and the Sedan are bog similar.

The Verito Vibe delivers an ARAI certified 20.8 Kmpl. With a 50 liter fuel tank, the Verito Vibe should be good for nearly a 1,000 kilometers on the highway. In terms of styling though, Mahindra's brochure details a slew of changes on the Verito Vibe hatchback. Here's a round up. The car features smoked headlamps, carbon finish front grille, roof rails, refreshed "champagne" alloy wheel design, a new X'mas tree tail lamp cluster, chrome strip on the bootlid, chromed exhaust tip and a new twin tone rear bumper. On the inside, the Verito Vibe sits in Verito sedan territory in terms of design and features.

Like the Verito sedan(and the original Dacia Logan), the Verito Vibe features a wide body design. The wide body design delivers ample shoulder room and the Verito Vibe promises to be one of the most spacious cars for three adults to sit abreast. Emphasizing room for five adults, the Verito Vibe features five headrests. On the inside, prominent features include air conditioning(quick cool according to Mahindra), a 2-DIN CD player with support for USB and AUX. Select variants of the sedan get electric wing mirrors, driver information system, driver airbag and ABS+EBD. The car rides on 14 inch wheels with tubeless tyres as standard. The Verito Vibe gets a 330 liters boot, which is higher than the Swift's 280 liters but significantly lower than the Amaze's 400 liters.

The car weighs in at 1,155 kilograms while a 3 years/100,000 kilometers warranty is offered as standard. The Vibe is available in seven different colours, Fiery Black, Java Brown, Mist Silver, Tornado Red, Dolphn Grey, Diamond White and Aqua Rush. So, what is the Verito Vibe's biggest differentiating factor? Mahindra's top honchos say that the Verito Vibe hatchback is derived from a sedan whereas other sedans such as the Swift Dzire and the Honda Amaze are derived from hatchbacks. This, according to Mahindra, makes the Verito Vibe than other B+ segment hatchbacks.

Mahindra emphasized this by showcasing the wheelbase of the Verito Vibe, which at 2,630 mm is about 200mm greater than the likes of the Swift, Liva, Amaze and the Dzire. Height adjustable seat belts and 3 individual headrests on the rear bench seat are the other differentiating factors that Mahindra emphasized in the launch presentation of the Verito Vibe. Detailed images and other details of the Verito Vibe will follow in a couple of hours from now. For now, here is a bunch of images straight from the launch floor.

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

Here is link to ACI's Test drive of the car:

http://www.autocarindia.com/Review/3...t-drive.aspx/1

As per the review, the smaller Vibe shares all the pluses & quirks with the larger Verito & M&Mhave managed a decent job.

I am yet not convinced with that idiotic hatch opening .

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

After seeing the prices, I feel this time Mahindra become greedy. At Rs.5.89 lakh and you don't get ABS & EBD and at Rs.6.48 you get only one Airbag? Toyota Liva would be a better choice than this one is what I feel. Finally M&M is going to have a market dud in their product line up.

Also as commented by few of our team members, the hatch door opening is pathetic and a design flaw

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

Ex-showroom Mumbai prices
  • Verito D4 = 6.48L
  • Vibe D4 = 5.89L

So just to save 54 K, you have to suffer an unconventional looks, reduced boot space, and a weird impractical boot. I don't see any individual buyers opting for Vibe instead of Verito.

Mahindra - the big Question is why bother? Why did you just not save the R&D and marketing costs and pass it off as 15K savings to a Verito customer?

note: looks like Carwale prices was wrong. Its not 6.15 but 5.89 = means savings is 54K. edited accordingly

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

They have got the pricing wrong I feel. Plus the car is an ordinary one in the high competition segment it has been launched in...

Mahindra should stop taking short cuts for new product launches. First Quanto now the Vibe. Just like Maruti fails in the SUV / C and above segments, Mahindra will also fail in the non-SUV segment I guess....reason for failure in both cases. Shortcut Strategy!!!

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

This should cheer up the Toyota Camp, as Vibe does not stand against their Taxi segment Etios Liva.

It should be a dud

- Poor pricing
- Poor boot space management
- Poor interiors, no / very little work while designing this new product lineup which is already filled with options
- Poor safety features, the upper segment gets only one air-bag ! why?

Mr. Anand Mahindra?

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

Never liked the Verito and the Vibe looks equally bland. They could have redone the front to make it look a bit fresh - it may just have garnered more interest. Now that the pricing is out there really is nothing exceptional to differentiate it from the other hatchbacks in the market.

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

Overall its pretty plain-jane and the pricing is not what one would call tempting. But there are some angles from which this car looks a bit interesting - i took a screenshot of one of these angles from ACI's reviews which i am attaching below. It certain caught my eye at this angle.

Re: Mahindra to offer a Verito based hatchback called the 'Vibe'

The internal hatch S-arms remind me of the Fiat/ Padmini's boot. In fact, its a lot more ugly than what the Padmini had, as it was not that pronounced. It was more like a hinge, it's more like a structure in itself. Bad design. Moreover, irrespective of space, it would limit the size of the luggage the boot can take.

I wonder, why a hydraulic cylinder was not used. With some clever design, it could have been achieved.

Regards,
Saket
