V40 maybe a X1/Q3 competitor but it will have to beat the A class in pricing and features. Remember the snob value of the 3 pointed star hatchback shall not find it difficult to cast a shadow on the launch of this stunning Volvo.

Volvo guys would know it too , i remember they had to launch the "corporate " variant of the S60 in an attempt to be in the fight.

Autocarindia confirms the launch of V40 cross Country, price expected somewhere around 25L, to compete with the Mercedes A-Class to be launched on 30th may..and also the B-class probably..

It boasts of a 180bhp T4 petrol engine and a five-cylinder 148bhp D3 diesel mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. From safety point of view, it will also be equipped with the world’s first pedestrian airbag technology and is also the only car in its class to be available with Pedestrian Detection Technology.. whoah..

The T2 petrol costs just £18,390 in the UK - I hope they get that here and price it closer to 20L. Is this coming as a CKD?
If its the T4, then expect pricing of 25L and above for sure...

GC is only 145mm? Is it a cross over? Its less than even some of the sedans that we have.

Agree with you, despite of 24hrs roadside assist, spare tyre should have been a mandate !!
To add.. Volvo claims to have has increased the GC by 40mm (compared to its V40 hatch), keeping in mind the 'cross-country' design, good.. but 40mm ?


Good part...Got to see details w.r.t. interior, design, engine specs, features in the V40 brochure (UK); can have an idea what we would be getting here.. altogether this is a well built car with an edge when comes to safety (that is what volvo is known for) and design..

There are rumours floating around that Volvo might launch the V40 hatch as well, and also the Cross Country model. Lets see

Was at Blue Frog (Delhi) yesterday for the screening of the Documentary "Sound city". The Volvo Cross Country was on display there.

Couple of points :-
1. Ground clearance is abysmally low. Even the S60 standing next to it was seemingly taller.
2. There is only a moon-roof, not a sun-roof.
3. The car is horribly poor on head-room. At 5'11" i had a tough time keeping my head not hitting the roof even with the seat at the lowest setting.
4. Volvo expects to price the car at ~33L on-road in Delhi (making it ~28.5L ex-showroom).
5. The launch is end June.

Given my number and name to them. Hopefully will get a test drive in the next couple of days.

GC for cross country is 170 mm and not 145.
145 is for the standard hatchback. The GC in autocar cut out must be a misprint.
though still one can't take its cross country name seriously.

I guess Sweden does not have speed breakers like we do. Hence there concept of High Ground Clearance is way different than ours. Their sedans have GC of 139 mm which is also very low and somehow they have not learnt anything in all these years about Indian market

GC can and will be changed to suit Indian conditions. The Cross Country looks very sharp and can very well take on the the X1 and the new A and B Class Mercs. The Q3 maybe not so much because it has bigger proportions, whereas the V40 is more like a hatchback on stilts.

I'm not being judgmental here but just to play the devil's advocate, wouldn't this be a liability to the car owner in India given that we have pedestrians along with the 4 legged variety in large numbers.
Repair costs in case of even a stray would be prohibitive - no offence to any PETA members .
