Mahindra to offer all top variant features along with a manual ’box on the SsangYong Rexton RX6.

Mahindra-owned SsangYong is readying a new variant of its Rexton SUV called the Rexton RX6. The new Rexton RX6, like its other variants, is powered by a 162bhp, 2.7-litre, five-cylinder, turbo-diesel motor, sourced from Mercedes and will be offered with a five-speed manual transmission.

The Rexton RX6 will come all features available on the top-end automatic RX7 .

This is a good move as the RX5 sported even lesser features than the Scorpio VLX. Still the brand is too unknown to command such a premium price.

Mahindra launches the Rexton RX6.

He was speaking to presspersons after launching the new SsangYong Rexton ‘RX6’, a five-speed manual transmission version with 14 new features, including electric sunroof with tilt/open function, speed sensitive power steering, memory functions with three presets for driver seatand rain-sensing wipers. On the safety front, it came with electronic stability programme, front and side airbags, anti-slip regulation and active rollover protection, apart from hill descent controls, he pointed out. The RX6 that comes in satin white, volcano black, moondust silver and opulent purple colours, is priced at Rs.20.11 lakh ex-showroom Hyderabad, where it was first launched, he said, In addition to the existing range of Rexton SUVs it came with a 2.7 litre engine with 162 bhp power and 340 torque that included an intelligent 4 X 4 torque on demand system with low ratio switch.

With the likes of Toyota Fortuner ruling this segment, and alternates available like Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Ford Endeavour, I really doubt the future of Ssangyong Rexton R6 and R7. The company should really look at reducing the cost and bring it to sub 18 lakh category. That might really help them boost their sales.

Any news on Rexton coming with the new 2 litre engine that Mahindra had showcased at the Auto Expo 2014? That may give it the required boost as the ageing 2.7 Mercedes engine is pretty old school and noisy

That 2.7 engine is one of the top strengths of Rexton. Do you seriously find it noisy? Which according to you is a more refined engine in this segment(chassis based SUVs)?

I really love the Engine and manual gearbox in Rexton, i am sure the VGT version with Manual transmission will be much better. I do find the powerband narrow compared to my XUV's mhawk.

I haven't looked under this car, you think, you can add a protection plate? Should that be enough after side steps removed? Not for OTR's but kacchaa culverts, mud roads with deep approach & departure angles or trails. No OTR's & mud stuff.

And have driven the RX-5 as well the RX-7. I find the engine, as well as drivability superior to few other SUVs.

Mercedes 2.7 Noisy? At idle its more silent than the swift 1.3 DDIS. Its got no vibrations at all.

I drove one recently. A friends. What a smooth drive. Minimum roll and see saw movement unlike the fortuner.

And what effortless power.

That Mercedes engine and gearbox is a gem!

The 2015 SsangYong Rexton has been unveiled in South Korea. Features include a newly designed radiator grille that seems to have been inspired by the SsangYong Chairman saloon, new alloy wheels and projector headlamps with day time running LEDs.
