Audi A3 sedan coming to Auto Expo 2014. It will join Audi’s range of sedans later this year and will slot in below the A4.

Audi’s display at the Auto Expo will also include the recently-launched RS7 sedan. It’s got a 4.0-litre TFSI twin-turbo V8 engine good for 553bhp and can be yours for Rs 1.29 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Performance-driven showgoers will also get to see the R8 V10 plus Spyder in the flesh and Audi’s Le Mans conquering R18 e-tron Quattro will be there as well.

The Audi Q5 SUV will also be displayed in its hot SQ5 TDI avatar. The ‘S’ in the name implies a lot of sportiness on the Q5 thanks to this version’s 313bhp, 3.0-litre twin-turbo diesel motor. It’ll do 0-100kph in a blistering 5.1 seconds! Special editions of the Q3 and Q7 SUVs will be other attractions at the Audi stand.

I spotted the A3 sedan testing in Mumbai in peak hour yesterday morning. I tried to get as many pictures as possible but could manage just 3 in the morning bumper to bumper traffic. The car had no model number on it. Just the Audi logo.

Given this peak hour testing, I would assume the launch is not far.

The car looks tiny in person and I think the dimensions would be close to those of the Vento.

If a news in The Outlook Magazine is to be believed the German luxury auto brand Audi will start selling its premium A3 sedan in India from the middle of this year (2014) and the car will be rolled out from the company's production facility in Aurangabad.

It will be assembled in India from the launch stage and the company expects it to be a driver of growth for it.

Audi is testing the A3 and the A8L facelift in Mumbai from way back before Diwali last year. Have seen both cars being caught by the cops at separate occasions due to their TC red-plate registration.

As far as I know, bookings are not open yet. Maybe in the next couple of months...

Checked with Audi in Delhi. Bookings aren't open yet. They would have a preview for potential customers before the actual launch and that's when the bookings would begin for those who had previously shown interest. Once launched, bookings continue as they normally would. As far as I remember, Audi had adopted a similar strategy when they launched the Q3 as well.

If that happens, Audi will decimate all competition in one shot. It will be over without a fight.
However, I think there is very slim chance of that happening. I am eyeing Ocatvia in the next 3 months (fixed plan) and will be tempted to jump ship for sure.

Do you think Audi will launch a sedan cheaper than hatchs (1 series and A Class). With such good understanding of the India market, I think they may not. I hope I am proven wrong though
