Is that correct? 320Nm of torque from a 1.6l diesel? And that's despite the lower power output than the Creta's engine (which seems to be the same as that in the Verna).

If it is, then that'll be brilliant. Fiat has tuned this engine to 300Nm in their own vehicles, google tells me.

Yes -Maximum torque N・m / rpm = 320 / 1,750 for the S cross.

Wow, that's just brilliant! Makes the engines from the likes of Mahindra and Tata (XUV and Safari/Aria) seem poorly tuned/executed

With the power and torque figures like that, should be able to cruise at 110/120 easily, and pull like crazy to get there! I wasn't interested in the SCross based purely on the looks, but am I now!

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

ET Auto reports that the Maruti S-Cross would have a starting price of around Rs. 8.2 lakhs.

Quote:
"As the volumes are increasing in the premium segment, and in order to maintain its market share, MSIL has no other option but to establish a few products in the segment," said an analyst on the condition of anonymity.

The vehicle is expected to be the costliest product from Maruti in India after Kizashi and Grand Vitara.

The car would have a starting price of around Rs 8.2 lakh.

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

With such staggering engine outputs from the 1.6l engines, wonder what Renault will do with the Duster 85ps RXE models? How will they be able to sell it in large numbers even though from a day to-day performance PoV, it maybe perfectly adequate.

One answer is to radically slash prices and reposition it even lower. They have anyway skimmed all the cream with the high prices so far, easy to cut now!

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

Guys,

According to Indian Express, the booking of S Cross has started. I got in touch with my dealer at Mumbai but got a negative response ( not sure if we have the Nexa dealership yet).

Can anyone comment if the booking has indeed started ?

If this news is correct, we can safely assume that there is no Petrol model on offer, and the base 1.3L Diesel is priced at 8.2L. If they price the base petrol at 8.2L, it will be a failure from day 1 itself.

My expectation:

VDi 1.3L: 8L
ZDi 1.3L: 8.75L
ZDi+ 1.3L: 9.25L

VDi 1.6L: 9.25
ZDi 1.6L: 10L
ZDi+ 1.6L: 10.5L

ZDi 1.6L: 10L

If your expectations are met, then the 1.6 ZDi+ All Grip variant would be somewhere around 11.5L. This pricing seems quite possible.

re: The Maruti S-Cross. (Details released: Page 38)

If Maruti manages to price the S- Cross Diesel from 8.2L onwards, then that would be great.

The Hyundai i20 Active, which is one notch down segment wise, starts at 7.75L for the 1.4L CRDi. The Duster Diesel 85PS starts at 9+L for the base RxE variant.

I would not expect Maruti to price its cars one segment lower than its competitors.

Edit: On second thoughts, since the Ciaz VDi is 8.5L+, a price of 8.2L for S- Cross would be very very tempting.

Tit for tat. Suzuki will hit Renault with the S-Cross and Renualt will hit it (Alto) back with the Kwid.

Interesting times!

According to someone I know at Maruti's R&D, there wont be 1.6L diesel in the base variant of S cross due to availability constraints. Hence I presume that at the most it will begin from ZDi.
However it might be available on a later date if and when the production starts locally.

Shashi

The 85ps Duster can compete with SCross 1.3L, while SCross 1.6L can compete with Duster 110ps.

The word is conservative VeluM, conservative tuning.

And they M&M and Tata engines haul 2.5 tonnes, unlike these cross-overs which weigh less than 1.7 tonne.

Launch date is not announced.

Don't fall for this, there is no official announcement from Maruti on pre-bookings yet.

Considering that S-Cross belongs to the CUV / Compact SUV category, it will most definitely IMO be priced a little above Ciaz. Ciaz VDi is 8.2 ex-Delhi and hence, I do not see S-Cross priced at the range you have quoted. I also do not think, the will have ZDi and ZDi+ variants with 1.3 L engine. If my guess is correct, the VDi and maybe (less probably) a VDi+ variant will come with the 1.3 L and ZDi, ZDi+ and maybe some optional variants will come with 1.6 L engine. The lowest starting price possible IMO will be 8.5 L for S-Cross 1.3 DDiS VDi. If there is a Petrol version, it might come around 7.5 L ex-Delhi.
