BHPian ![]() | ![]() TOI and The Indian Express today mention that the NGT will not allow even Vintage Cars to ply on Delhi Roads. Cockroaches don't know what is the actual cause of pollution. Those trucks that enter Delhi and ruin the air quality are spared rather than the beauties of the past conserved to revisit the history timeline. The country's rulers want to make India like America and Europe but they don't know the rules there. American roads are still allowing the vintages to run freely on roads provided they qualify the stringent norms. But these buggers just don't want to apply any brains and just shoot in dark without any aim or sense. Damn |

Looks like they were just waiting for 21 Gun Salute Rally to finish off and then pass off their knee jerk reaction. Its 2015 and a friend is already facing trouble in renewing registration of his MPFi gypsy which expires in march. The so called Justice believes that a 15 year old Honda City Pollutes more than the trash commercial vehicles that ply in delhi everyday. ![]()

Team-BHP Support ![]() ![]() | ![]() They can ban all vehicles older than 5 years and the problem won't go away. An american researcher has been mapping pollution in the city for the past few months. So when is it the highest? Well, when cars are not even plying. Quote:

| ![]() This ban probably won't stick. Government is thinking of imposing this ban on commercial vehicles and not private. http://auto.ndtv.com/news/15-year-ol...capital-724305 I personally think banning commercial vehicles is a step in right direction. Furthermore government needs to take more strict actions to control the air pollution, if not for our sake then for generations to come. Another proposal to control cars I heard somewhere was related to only allowing people to register cars if they have parking certificates for the same. Parking lots and spaces in and around colonies will be regulated by DDA and as per a set of rules (still undefined) a certificate will be issued saying this person has a car parking. We need drastic measures as we are living in extremely polluted times. |

| ![]() Looks like the previous link was not working. Govt is acting up against Tribunal's order, hope that all things fall in the right places. http://www.business-standard.com/art...1200443_1.html |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() As expected. Kejriwal's trademark blue Wagon R should also be nearing 15 years. So the Delhi government is unlikely to take a harsh step that would impact their CM. ![]() EDIT: Is the ban coming under central government or state/NCR government? The NGT's order is currently applicable only to Delhi. I think either the central govt will communicate its view to the Delhi Govt who might issue necessary directions to the Transport Dept of Delhi lifting the ban on 15 + year old private vehicles OR the Central Govt might await the outcome of its affidavit filed in the Supreme Court in response to a PIL seeking to enforce the ban all over India. I'm not 100% clear as to what & how things will happen to lift the ban in Delhi. But the strong reiteration of its position in the matter by the Central Govt is an encouraging development ; lets see how things pan out. Meanwhile I'm keeping the Esteem's engine in working order!

Team-BHP Support ![]() | ![]() The Government of India has shot down the proposal put forth by the National Green Tribunal in November 2014, banning cars over fifteen years of age in the wake of the rising pollution levels. Instead, it is mulling the introduction of stricter fitness tests for vehicles. Under the new rules, all private vehicles will have to undergo technical checks once in five years. Vehicles over the age of fifteen years will be subject to technical checks once in 3 years. Link to Team-BHP News Article |

Unfortunately, this can also be another point of corruption, where some green grease is used to get fitness checks cleared.

BHPian ![]() | ![]() Thank goodness some steps are in the right direction. The Lok Sabha will definitely take the right decision and Mr. Kejriwal will also be able to retain his Wagon R. Keeping fingers crossed. Is anyone aware when will the hearing take place in the Supreme Court? |

http://archive.patrika.com/news/kejr...ndidate/995576 BTW Mr. CM's Wagon R is far from being 15 years old. This is the second generation WagonR (probably a BS III model), when the front headlights had indicators, instead of the indicators in place of fog lamp.

| ![]() Meanwhile the NGT has asked the Delhi Govt to consider banning diesel vehicles over 10 years ! And, they have directed a strict implementation of the ban & asked the Delhi govt to file an affidavit in weeks time giving the status of compliance with its orders. ( TOI Delhi Edn, 17/03/15, pg 2 ) I fail to understand what the heck is going on - the Central govt & the NGT seem to be on totally contradictory trips on this issue. How is the Central govt going to make the NGT amend its orders in this regard.....? Perplexed & Confused. |
