There's a FB page entitled " Scrap NGT ruling not our vehicles " which is actively seized of this issue. Lots of members country wide.
Members may like to visit it to get the latest .

In our country the biggest over rated pillar is judiciary, and the most over rates people are the judges.

The whole banning xx year old vehicle is a something that has no technical semblance. Had they worded it like: since a vehicle made before the year 2000 was not manufactured according to the Bharat emissions stages and therefore would be more polluting than newer vehicles still invokes some sense of technical knowledge. But BAN XX YEARs OLD VEHICLE seems to be whim.

Is there any update on this issue? I am unable to get any concrete information from Web. I have a 14 year old car which needs repair, but not sure if I should go ahead with it.

Wait till the 13th July NGT hearing. Central govt is pushing for fitness based criteria in place of the age based one presently in force.

re: Proposal to ban 15 year old vehicles. EDIT: Concept paper released on page 18

There are news about 13 July hearing in HINDU paper today. No headway. Govt still maintains that vehicles are contributing only 18.5 to pollution. Then NGT ask back as what is contributing to pollution. Unfortunately, no one seems to find ways to solve the problem. Pollution is definitely a concern.

Strangely no differentiation is made between Private and commercial vehicles. A commercial CAR (Taxi) can easily run 5,00,000 kms in five years but a private car may not even run 1,00,000 km in 15 years.

It is all about Diesel and petrol vehicles which is not reasonable. NGT intentions are good but age is no scientific way to control pollution.

Pollution is Delhi is due to dust from construction activities, burning of garbage (leaves), poor management of garbage collection.

Removing old "private" vehicles will only benefit car manufactures!

Thanks

Hi, are there any updates to this? I have a OHC VTEC 2001 May model and I so want to keep it with me but with this "nonsense" rule I may have to part ways with her :(

Not sure what to do.

Wait for a while, this are still in a ferment but I am getting feeling that at last the NGT is realising that its the 80,000+ ill maintained, overloaded trucks that transit thru Delhi every night that are the real culprits insofar as the vehicular contribution to pollution is concerned & hence they are now piling on pressure for early completion of the eastern & western peripheral expressways.
They may therefore accept the Central govts views re enforcing fitness based criteria re private vehicles.

What if we keep waiting and the registration expires. My registration for the S class 320 expires in Jan 16. It is a beautiful well kept car but this stupid law has made me put it on the market now

Completely understand your frustration & dilemma.
But unfortunately, there's no sight of an early resolution - things move so slowly in our courts.
I'm in a similar fix...

re: Proposal to ban 15 year old vehicles. EDIT: Concept paper released on page 18

So what happens to the vehicles whose registration is expiring in the next 15 days while the NGT hangs in limbo. Once the registration expires, will they be able to re-register if NGT lifts the ban.

In previous times, as we all know, the car would have to go through a fitness check and get re-registered for a period of 3(?) years and it would cost around 3-4k.

Any clue on this?

Bests,
Saakaar

re: Proposal to ban 15 year old vehicles. EDIT: Concept paper released on page 18

One Honda sales person informed me that new Diesel cars are being registered for 15 years.

Has anybody really tried extending registration after 15 years with Delhi RTO. The same dealer told me that same is also possible as nothing has been changed in rules for RTO. However he mentioned that it is only done thru "2 number."
