More importantly, hope Tata realized they have created a marketing niche by croudsourcing the name of the car, a first for Indian market. They should make it their trademark & do it for future releases too.

Tiago would be adopted in our market, that is for sure, as the grand example Laura was a decent seller despite the slang in the name.

I wonder how locals, specially in rural areas, will spell the name - Tata "Tyaago" (Tyaag = Sacrifice).

Good to see that the name i had voted for was finally picked; now where is my free Zica (err Tiago) TATA?

Somehow, feel that they should have done a bit more aggressive campaign for this naming competition. That would have helped to create some sort of buzz around the product while it is gearing up for launch. None of the people in my circle are even remotely aware of this kind of contest going on. Hope TATA goes all out and gives this seemingly competent car, required sales and marketing push for it to have a fair chance at success. All the best to Tiago!

Glad that the better one out of the 3 crowdsourced names was chosen!! Interestingly, Tiago is like Thiago, which is the name of Tata Motors' brand ambassador Lionel Messi's elder son.

It's official now! Tata Motors has renamed its upcoming hatchback to ‘Tiago’.
Tata had announced a crowd sourcing activity to rename the Zica hatchback.

Mr. Libi Thomas (Facebook handle - Thomas Notthe Train) emerged as the winner of the "Fantastico Name Hunt" contest.

Thiago is Lionel Messi's son's name. Maybe it was a tribute from Tata's to Messi. Esp. given he has done the endorsement way below international athlete rates.

There is a speculation that it will be launched by March End. If that is indeed the case, then the rename process will not have a huge impact in terms of delay. But knowing TATA, we never know what is going to happen in terms of timelines. With Zest and Bolt not doing well, TATA should be able to do something better with Tiago. Not sure why but my heart says Tiago is also going to go the same way as the former two cars!!

Still better than Mahindra's naming logic if you ask me! Whats with calling their hatchback a Utility Vehicle (KUV) and then adding not one but double ohhs to it!

My uncle's 4 year old kid when asked whats the name of their new car says TUV...and then his mind goes off to recite abcd which he learnt at school.. So he eventually says TUVwxyz three hundred !!

Tata Motors have learnt it the hard way. But still, lets wait and watch the response from the crowd sourced name. Keeping in mind the potential the little hatch has, I think it will revolutionize the way customers look at Tata products.

Nevertheless, coming to the name; if Ferrari can name their car THE FERRARI (English of LaFerrari) and Pagani can name their car HUAYRA,which are typically useless names to use, I dont think TIAGO sounds that bad. So Tata Tiago it is.

NOTE: India has a million languages, and equally million levels of pronunciations. So interpreting the same in a non factual way may not be right. Same stands for different car names be it Skoda Laura or anything else

I don't mind it, it's bold decision by TML. Look at the statement someone can make - "I drove Tiago"; even better had it been a 2 wheeler "I rode Tiago"

I am sure if the car performs well otherwise, the new name will get acceptance.

Sadly, I would have preferred a 2-syllable (Zi-Ca) name over the current 3-syllable one (Ti-A-Go). Even the original project name KITE sounds better.

Feels like I will be riding inside a person- Mooom... can you take Tiago to the market
