Good marketing strategy by Tata.

I have suggested the names:

Tata Gem
Tata Sleek

But I have a feeling irrespective of the names suggested they would adopt the codename Kite itself, and they will also register the shortlisted names for future models.

Edit: How many names they would be able to get hold of? What do you think?

This is indeed a nice way to generate publicity by involving the populace. Word of mouth publicity is one of the most important factors for the success of any product in today's market

I've suggested TATA RIPPLE because I feel the success of this car is gonna create a ripple effect that'll spread to other cars - the Kite 5, Nexon, Bolt sports and the Hexa.

This could well be the much needed break through for the company to change their fortunes. The renamed Zica along with the design theme IMPACT and the to be launched line up looks promising and confidence inspiring. I'd say the sleeping Giant - TATA Motors is waking up. That 3rd or 4th spot in the market share is at stake

Indica and indigo at this point are unwanted baggage for Tata. Whatever the history may be, in today's scenario customers associate Indica to a taxi. Simple. So Tata is right in moving away from these names.
Honda Civic and Corolla are a different story altogether. Their heritage comes thru from a certain fan following for reliable cars in the US and Japan. I don't think the Indica nameplate has even 10% brand equity of the Corolla and Civic.

As the Zica has lost its name it has become anonymous, so my suggestion to Tata Motors is

TATA ANON

which has some connection with Nano and Xenon

Since Tata Motors has a liking for "ca" suffix - I would go with "Myca". Short form / slang for "my car", from the perspective of the prospective customer.

I've suggested the name Tata Surge on Twitter. The idea behind the name is that this could be beginning of the resurgence of Tata, allowing it to surge ahead of the pack.

Agreed. For that reason I suggested "Zipp". Solid single-syllable name that suits a small fast car. And close enough to Zica that it still has some of the association retained.

Then, we've had so many other unsuitable / controversial car names that were worse off, yet the models went on to enjoy success. Creta (so many jokes on that), Laura (even more jokes), Duster (as in a cloth used for dusting furniture), Dzire (seriously, what kind of name is that)...the list goes on.

Not to forget the infamous "Lauretta" episode . Thankfully Skoda came to their senses and changed it back to Rapid before launch.
