Civet sounds like CVT pronounced. Tiago definitely will associate with Tiguan or Taigun and VW.. Maybe that's actually a good thing even with the VW scandal. Adore was definitely picked by their competitors

re: Tata wants your help in renaming the Zica! (Edit: Now renamed Tiago)

Civet: Sounds like Sweat
Tiago: Looks like from Mahindra stable "O" and sounds like brother of Datsun RediGo
Adore: Just sounds like A-door in india it might be called Adoray

None of them are catchy.

Why Should Messi promote Tiago?, that too Brazilian player

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiago_Silva

But Civet and Tiago sounds good.

Edit: Voted for tiago

re: Tata wants your help in renaming the Zica! (Edit: Now renamed Tiago)

Of the three, I voted for Civet. Tiago sounds like a common Latino first name (so many Iberian & Latin American professional footballers named Tiago/Thiago, racing driver Tiago Monteiro etc.) Adore sounds quite ordinary, to say the least.

Civet is a nocturnal mammal. It looks quite cute (link) and somewhat cat-like (but is not related to cats). As a cat lover, I chose this over the other two names.

Civet: This is what a civet looks like:

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civet
But at least there is a band by that name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civet_%28band%29

Tiago: It may not be the best name but it's better of the three. It is a shortened version of Santiago in Spain. (Reminded me of how Santro was shortened form of San Tropez). Santiago is the patron saint of Spain and there are cities called Santiago all across the former Spanish empire. At the same time its quite a common name in the Spanish speaking world. So it might benefit them or harm them depending on how perception is in the Latin American world if they export to Latin America.

Adore: Somehow doesn't seem right for a car. Doesn't have that oomph.

(Thanks for the update! )

Naming any product is an art that involves the best choice words that match attitude of the brand & even phonetics of how it sounds to say out.

Prefix TATA to any of the above & none of them sound phonetically OK.

Could no-one at Tata Motors care enough to make a smart choice ?
IMO This is what happens when theres a dearth of passion.

This is a huge wasted opportunity as far as I'm concerned. They claim to have received 37,000+ names, and they've ended up choosing these three not-so-catchy ones. Even Zica sounds better than these three!
True!

37,000 !? Its a hoax IMO. I applied by SMS, through Twitter & on WhatsApp. When I last checked yesterday, they hadn't even visited the WhatsApp Number since 6th February!

They should've definitely stuck to Zica instead of these names.

Hope they don't name the Kite 5 based on these.

lol over the years I feel Tata Motors kindof specialises at that.

When you name a car, it should throw an attitude,a spirit.I feel its stupid to go for animal and place names. I hope TATA is listening. It should be subtle in nature, not brash, in my humble opinion.

Agree. They should have kept a "None of the above" option. That would have got the most votes.

By the way, are they planning to sell this car in South America?

Thiago is actually the name of Messi's first kid. And of these three names, Tiago does sound better to me.

Tata motors overreacted. There was hardly a requirement to change the name. Zica sounded much better than what they have in hands now. Even Kite was a much better choice. And after all this hoopla, this is what they have got?

Strange choices from TATA's side.

Civet is an animal, as discussed.

Tiago....well, the debate is on.

Adore does not seem to be a name that would not appeal much to the general (read : male) populace.

Seems like this will be fiasco even before it is launched. The marketing team seems capable of coming up with a suitable name, even after getting so much help. .Even the names like Fiat Doblo or Qubo sound better, LOL.

None of the 3 sound better than Zica!

Tata Tiago is too close to Tata Tea. If I wasn't interested in Tata Motors, based on the cars name, I wouldn't give it a second thought before skipping the option.

TBH, I find it abit creepy if they've chosen on that criteria.

And when most Indian junta doesn't know much about Messi, what's the point of naming it after his kid!

Tata Motors sure can spoil things with its weird ways.

I don't know if that was the reason for choosing it though. I just mentioned it in response to the earlier comment about it being a Brazilian footballer's name. I agree none of them sound better than Zica.

I kind of understand why Tata wants to keep their car away from any possible trouble in future and thus skipped the name Zica... you never know how badly the virus gets spread.

But skipping the name Zica and choosing any one of these looks like a blunder in making.

Don't know on what basis they have shortlisted these names. Not based on majority of votes for sure though.

Myself and, IMO, many of us NOW ONLY came to know that there exists an animal called Civet on this planet earth.

Adore is too feminine and thus Tiago is my choice. Voted for it.

I've never seen a car gets ruined just because of its name, so wishing the same for Tiago.

Zica was absolutely better than the above 3 names. For the price range will fall into, those 3 names (okay, Adore is fine) look like they came from Mars. Simpler names would have been better. Names that are easy to catch work wonders, ask Maruti (Swift) and Hyundai (i10). I will pick Civet, due to lack of a better name.

1. Tiago sounds like Piaggio to me. Yeah, I remember those school days in Piaggio Ape autos!

2. Adore is very similar to Amaze, and not a perfect match for a striking design (would suit a softer looking Ritz/i10).

How to make a great car, a good marketing move, spoil the opportunity and leave the product on its own (without any marketing efforts, etc.) till it becomes a dud - learn from Tata. They had an opportunity to advertise on TV/radio/whatever to make everyone aware of the new launch. Even though the replies would have been tremendous and weird, this would have worked as a great pre-launch marketing tool. I don't think many people (unless interested in buying a car themselves) search the Internet for getting updated with basic car launch news. TV would have been a good medium to spread the news to greater audience. Next, they had an opportunity to give the car an Indian name, like some people suggested in this thread, but they chose to go with the trend. Catchy names would have been fine but Civet, Tiago and Adore; come on Tata! Let's see how Tata does marketing post the launch. I believe Tata fans (if there are) would pick a product without considering the name, but the current names don't look inviting enough for other non-Tata people consider the car. They have learnt an art of making successful models fail (Zest, Bolt and even Aria), seriously.

Seriously, the names that were suggested even on this forum by BHPians are million times better than any of these 3.

Civet, if spelt fast, sounds like Civic.
Tiago - Sounds "Tea Ago"
Adore - Sounds feminine.

When my flatmates, working with Tata Motors used to say that their marketing is handled by a bunch of idiots, I thought they were being mean. Now I realize they weren't bluffing.
