I know of a builder in Mangalore who has all his cars with number ending with N 11. He has registered his cars from so many different RTO's. Is it possible to get a car registered from a different RTO when i am staying in some other RTO limits?

Another Story:
People shed a lot of money in Andhra Pradesh for these fancy numbers,2 years back a neighbour in my appartment in my native place in Andhra Pradesh(Vijayawada) had spent 5.25 Lakhs for a fancy number 9999 for his safari, thats more than the cost of OTR price of my Santro

Money can get you a number from any RTO sir...

I managed to get 99 for my mb280cdi from mumbai rto.

In Kerala there is a gazette notification by the MVD listing 143 numbers which are considered fancy numbers and you have to book for these numbers in advance(250 numbers before).booking amount is presently Rs.2000/-(formerly it was Rs.5000/-).If there are more than one applicant for the same number, it is put up for auction and the highest bidder gets the allotment.NO SCOPE for any BRIBES,because it is held openly and you/representative must directly be present for bidding.
as far as I know the highest amount paid till date was Rs.4.5 lakhs for KL-07-AW-1.

I guess showtime is all fancy numbers are....
I got 7777 for my 2002 santro (mumbai andheri RTO) and had paid 10,000 officially plus 1000 as tea n snacks charges.
Last year when i got my Innova, 7777 was not available and they asked 2,25,000 ( 75,000 is official for 4 digits same series and they charges thrice the amount if they give you the number from two wheeler series )
finally settled for 5050 and paid 22,500 officially
but now the tea time expenses went to 5,000
they say its all demand supply that has created these high charges

same is the scenario for cell phone numbers
a number ending with 99999 was sold for a lac in mumbai
and ending with 000000 is being quoted at 2 lacs
If anyone wants the premium numbers, best alternative is to catch hold of new operators in the city who are willing to give premium numbers at lower cost
:) so how many number fans here :thumbs up

One of the actor in tamilnadu has a Old mercedeswith number TN-09-AK-47. He paid a premium price to get that i suppose

What is present condition in national capital ????

My family's been having the number 8008 since as far as i can remember. All our bikes and cars have that number ( except for a Maruti Van and my current Alto - which has 2424, as we got the esteem at the same time).

Currrent crop for the 8008 number includes:

2 Activas
1 Enfield Thunderbird
1 HH CBZ
1 Innova
1 M. Esteem

Had to pay Rs.8888 in an auction for the number of the Esteem. Rest all it's only been the govt fees of Rs.500 for 2 wheeler and 3000 for 4 wheelers.

Though earlier it all used to happen by "setting" only. In recent years, the govt too has woken up and introduced auctions.

Ajay, AFAIK the highest amount paid in Kerala for a reg.no: is 6lakhs[KL - 08 AP 1] - Landcruiser 2009 V8

I paid NOTHING for 3322 on my Activa :)

I have a single digit numerical No., i.e., 1, on my 1995 Esteem. I did not pay for it. I was allotted the number by a politician friend.

I've had several interesting experiences because of the number. Highway toll computers do not issue receipts for a single digit numerical number as they are designed for the present times in which single digit numerical numbers are not issued any more. Many of the toll boys think I've simply not displayed the preceeding digits to show off my No. 1!

At many parking places, curious young attendants waive off the fee. Often they smilingly point out the number to their colleagues who gather around the car.

Often, policemen do not stop me at road barriers and simply waive me on.

Now, I'm informed, NRIs are willing to pay Rs 10 lakh for the car simply because of the number. Later, they'll get the number transferred to their Merc/BMW. But I'm not selling -- not just yet! But sometimes I'm tempted to do so and then head straight for the Skoda showroom and pick up the 1.8 TSI. But the write-ups on the Forum about the Skoda service, etc, and the knowledge that the Yeti TSI/CRDi and the Jetta CRDi are around the corner also put a stop to my inclination.

VIP number plates are set for a comeback. The state transport department, that has discontinued allotment of VIP numbers in the wake of the Chholegate scam, has finalized a policy under which it will allot special numbers to vehicle owners if they are ready to pay for them.

The proposed system, for both four and two-wheelers, is based on a first-come-first-served allotment of special numbers upon payment of a specified amount. These numbers have been grouped into six categories on the basis of their demand.

Introduction of a payment system for VIP number plates would require a new rule, Rule 34A, to be inserted in the Delhi Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993. The rule will lay down the norms for allotment of such numbers including the fact that it will be on a strictly "first-come-first-served" basis following an application by the owner on a prescribed form called the Application for Choice Number (AFCN).

There will be a separate series of VIP numbers for government vehicles for which there will be no payment required.
For the general public, VIP numbers would come in six price slabs. These are, 0001 and 0786 (to cost Rs 1 lakh for cars and Rs 7,000 for two-wheelers), 0002-0009 (Rs 50,000 for cars and Rs 6,000 for two-wheelers), 0010-0099 (Rs 40,000 for cars and Rs 5,000 for two-wheelers), numbers like 0100, 0111, 7777, 8000 etc (Rs 30,000 for cars and Rs 2,500 for two-wheelers), numbers like 0123, 1717, 2500 etc (Rs 20,000 for cars and Rs 1,500 for two-wheelers) and numbers like 0101, 6263 etc (Rs 10,000 for cars and Rs 700 for two-wheelers).

Apart from "selling" VIP numbers, the other option that the transport department had was auctioning them, as is done in Chandigarh. But this, transport department sources said is not feasible for Delhi where a whopping 900 cars are added to the roads every day. "We would need a separate department just to carry out the auctions then," said a senior official.

According to the cabinet note, the three issues in the matter of car and bike registration numbers that need to be addressed are the demand for "special" numbers, allotment of numbers with the name/surname of the owner and retention of old registration numbers for the new vehicle of the same owner. For the latter two issues, the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 would need to be amended. For this, it has been proposed that, with the council of ministers 'approval, the central government be approached for providing the state with the statutory framework.
Is This News Real ??? Saw it On a website.

its not true....the cost of the number plate depends on how advanced you pick the series. for example if the rto has opened the BA series and u want some other series which has not been in the market you pay a higher price and of course the price also depends on the type of number if its a fancy number or a vip number or even a govt number..
